  • From Barclays:

"Can I use Online Banking abroad?
You can use the service in most countries but some do not allow encrypted data to be sent over a public phone network. If you're in doubt, check with the relevant consulate or embassy before using the service outside the UK. "

Did not take me long to check these did it

This is again a good example ... the customer is informed ... I could access other accounts online through encrypted information ie. HTTPS.
  • tom188 has found the example from A&L - I didn't see it myself

I think it does explain it

May be it is in India.

I can in India as I could access a couple of my other account ie. HSBC, credit cards AANDL, Nationwide, CITIBANK Account .. though credit cards from AANDL are administered through MBNA.
  • Basically the law of India does not restrict access as it would have restricted access to all my other UK accounts.

I think you're right. Typical countries that don't allow encrypted connections are the ones that tend to have internet censorship.
  • we are guessing lol

what about browser connections, or firewalls (no expert here) lol
  • Another statistic for all ... http://www.rediff.com/money/2005/dec/08remit.htm
$21.7 billion send to India from Indians working abroad ... highest in the world in 2004 ... I wouldnt think India would want to block $21.7 billion entering their forex reserves

Actually funny you asked this as I am bit of a computer geek ... very sad n lonely but there you go ...

Port80 is used for www access everywhere in the world ... so if I had Port80 blocked through firewall on my computer I would not be able to get onto the internet in the first instance.

You could type in port 80 in google and gets loads of info ...
  • I used firefox once and could not access Halifax site
  • Oh and one more important information I did not use the online account for any international transactions , I just used it to pay bills transfer money to other UK accounts etc ...

I tried both firefox n IE when I was in india i could get to the page put my details in but after that you got a message saying that the facility is blocked.
