So if they dont specify it in their T&C they are free to do anything that they fancy ???

For eg. anytime I access my account from Timbuktoo they will charge me £100 pounds .... its not in their T&C but its fine.

I believe if they are providing a service all the DO and DONT'S should be covered .
Oh, this is getting silly now. They didn't say you wouldn't get a free car either, so should you complain?

I've refrained from making the following comment up until now, because hindsight is always 20-20, but did you not think, even for a minute, that it might be worth checking this out before you relied on it, especially given that we all agree there is no mention of access abroad in the T&Cs or on the website?

Well I think so I made an irrelevant statement and not worth discussing as it deviates from the topic .

not really, you were on a tangent

you seem to be angry on here - A&L make their rules, not us

I understand where your coming from, but what I put up was just an extreme hypotheses.

My question is how does stopping access to an internet account stop Money laundering ?

And i am not angry just frustrated as I had to spend around £50 -60 on phone calls to carry out the transactions which I could have done online. FYI HSBC UK current account and all my credit card accounts were accessible online.
  • I can't see anything on Nationwides site too

I mean A&L are mainly UK

maybe it would be an idea to use an international bank instead

or those that have their call centres there :P

'This website is a service provided by the British Bankers' Association on behalf of JMLSG and contains important information about countering Money Laundering.'
  • From Barclays:

"Can I use Online Banking abroad?
You can use the service in most countries but some do not allow encrypted data to be sent over a public phone network. If you're in doubt, check with the relevant consulate or embassy before using the service outside the UK. "

Did not take me long to check these did it

    3. Scope of Service

The Service is only available to customers who hold an Account and is intended for use by UK customers only. The Service is not available to anyone who is not a resident of the U.K. The Service may also offer various online services to its users. Such services may include targeted offers, online calculators, online application forms, product information, interest rates, email, chat rooms, instant messaging, text messaging, bulletin boards, and calendar facilities. The Service uses a high level of encryption and the use of such encryption may be illegal in some countries outside of the UK. If You decide to use the Service outside the UK, You are responsible for ensuring that Your use of the Service is permitted by local law and We shall not be liable for any loss or damage suffered by You as a result of You not being able to use the Service in these countries.

May be it is in India.
  • But from the Barclays one, it says that it may be down to permission and laws of the country (as Halifax's says too)
