Problem sending SMS from Orange to Lebara

I'm having a problem sending text messages from my Orange iPhone to a Lebara mobile number starting 07774. It tries to send but says message failed every time. I understand that Lebara piggybacks on the Vodafone network and that 07774 is allocated to Vodafone. If I dial the number, I get through to Lebara voicemail, sometimes without a delay (e.g. mobile switched off) and sometimes with a delay (e.g. mobile out of coverage), but I don't want to leave a voicemail for reasons that are not relevant in this post. What can I do about this?

try sending message through your online Orange account?
  • How can I do this? When I log into my Orange account, there is no option to send a text message. I think there used to be, but not anymore.

email & communicate at the top

    >> send a text it 'Tools' at the bottom
  • Thanks for that. It says my message was sent, but I doubt that it will be received, because I guess that messages sent from an Orange phone and via the Orange website both use the same SMSC. If the SMSC doesn't know how to route to an 07774 Lebara number, then it would make no difference to send it from the Orange website. The only difference is that the sender is given an error on a phone, but not on the website because the website only sends data to the SMSC and doesn't receive data back from it.

How can I be sure that the destination number I have is correct? Is it possible that all numbers in Lebara's range automatically have voicemail, even if not yet connected? This would explain why I hear a voicemail greeting but cannot send SMS to the number - the number may be incorrect and not connected to a SIM.
