Broadband Problem

Hello Everyone,
I am having a bit of a problem with my Broadband connection, its been playing up for nearly 7 weeks. I am with Virgin.net, at the moment I can only get a connection from my BT test socket so I am having to run an extension lead upstairs. It will not connect on my second socket upstairs or through my actual BT socket downstairs.
Virgin arranged for BT to come out and look at my line, they said there is no problem with the sockets and did something in one of their signal boxes and then asked virgin to slightly reduce the speed of my package, they said after this it should work through my sockets. It was virgin's fault in the first place for doubling the speed without me asking (package 1.1 they set up 2.2mbps!)
Virgin eventually lowered the speed after a lot of chasing and arguing, this solved the problem for an hour then it was back again. Virgin have said it is nothing to do with them now as they are providing a service to the test socket and to get BT back out, but BT wont speak to me over the phone as my broadband service is not with them. Virgin told me to pull a wire from the socket to ensure BT come out. Canyone help with what I should try next.
Thank you

Thanks for this, what problems were you having, and how did you get Bt to come out, I cannot get to talk with them, I am getting really fed up with it all now I just want to be connected by not using my test socket, thanks again.
off to work now will look in later.0 -
your phone rental is provided by BT, so they should come out and check the wiring of your socket. Put you foot down.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

yes i really put my foot down and insisted that the lines were BT so they should maintain the service. Also tell them that you are getting in touch with OFCOM and it shakes them up a bit.0

Thank's, it's just that BT check the line by ringing me, and because I get incoming calls, and can dail out they think I don't have a problem, when I mention Broadband, because they are not my supplier they don't give a dam!!!!!!!! and now Virgin say because I can recive Broadband through the test socket they are doing there part of the deal so it is no longer their problem,(( just feel like I'm banging my head against a brick wall )))
Will try to ring and speak to some one, :beer:0 -
I have the same problem having to hook up through my test socket. My ISP have 'closed the case' since they are fulfilling their contrcatual obligations, meanwhile I have wires pouring out of my phone socket.
I called the BT fault switchboard but was disconnected when I chose the broadband option since they weren't my supplier. I went through again and chose the 'calls only' option and got an operator who was actually very helpful. She said BT could send out an engineer but if the problem was the wiring and not the socket I'd be subject to a £111 call out fee and £99 labour + parts if they did the job. It wouldn't cost anything if it turned out to be the socket, but apparently the wiring belongs to the houseowner and not BT. This is where it gets confusing, "isn't the wiring part of the socket?". Apparently, the wiring that attaches the front plate on to socket is not 'owned by BT', and since the test socket works it is highly probable that the problem is in the wiring.
I elected not call out out a BT engineer (£210 for what is probably a 20 minute wiring job?). I dug out the yellow pages and am getting in a telephony engineer as I suspect it's a common problem and I can probably get it fixed for half the BT charge if that.0 -
