Joint Account Questions

Am looking to set up a couple of joint accounts with OH
1. Looking for a current account. Joint income £2345 p/m (after tax)
Looked at the reccomendations on this site, didn't quite make sense of it all but thinking maybe the Santander Preferred Current Account or the Halifax Reward account?
2. A secondary savings account, OH already has an ISA savings which will be converted to a joint account but also looking to have a separate account where we can deposit money each month to save for car insurance/tax etc.
Anyone got any ideas or reccomendations?
thanks

Just so you know, ISAs cannot be in joint names.
I use Natwest for my sole and our joint accounts and have never bothered looking elsewhere to be honest, I've never worried about cashback or anything like that as long as a bank account does what it needs to do :-)
A lot of people here seem to rate Halifax, I wouldn't go with Santander unless you just want lots of hassle!0 -
First Direct I've found to be excellent, and they'll pay you £125.

Could be £150 if you open one each and then a joint account after.
You can have a Halifax reward account as well to get £15 between you each month (Sole each & a joint account).0 -
why do you want a joint a/c with all the problems they bring?0

Don't make the mistake of assuming they bring every couple problems. For some (myself included), they are a great way to operate family finances.
That said, they should only be used if the people involved are aware of the pitfalls, and if they are the right way for that particular couple.DFBX2013: 021 :j seriousDFW £0 [STRIKE] £3,374[/STRIKE] 100% Paid off

Neither of us knows the OPs circumstances as the OP hasn't chosen to share those.
So no mistake, just a enquiry as to those circumstances.
Why speculate when it's possible to know?0 -

I agree. The inclusion of "with all the problems they bring" has misrepresented your view, as it gives the impression you think negatively of them, and perhaps wish to influence what others think.
It's fair to say there are advantages and disadvantages and of course if the OP posts more about individual circumstances it would be clearer what would suit them better.DFBX2013: 021 :j seriousDFW £0 [STRIKE] £3,374[/STRIKE] 100% Paid off

Thanks for all your help guys.
Basically we are after a joint account because we are in the process of looking to buy a place together and it seems easier to have everything in once place for mortgages, bills etc.
Both of us have good credit ratings and are both sensible with money but I am aware of the fact that it is not a suitable solution for every couple, in this case I think it would be best but if anyone has reasons why it is not a good idea I am happy to hear them:starmod:Cosmopolitan:starmod:0 -
personally, I wouldnt give Santander two pence of my money to look after.
Halifax gives you £100 to oepn a current account (with at least £1k deposit each month)make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

What problems do they bring?
I`m a little worried now as I have just opened a Nationwide Cash Card + Joint account with the OHAny advice I give on these forums is my own opinion only, and is what I would do in your situation or, what I have done in the past, please do not slate me for offering what I see as "sound" advice.ThanksDavewinston0 -

SWMBO had an account with Santander and they kept hitting her with charges for bounced direct debits, she didnt authorize and also someone from a unknown company was taking funds from her card and the bank refused point blank to do anything about it saying she needs to contact the companies involved and get them to refund herAny advice I give on these forums is my own opinion only, and is what I would do in your situation or, what I have done in the past, please do not slate me for offering what I see as "sound" advice.ThanksDavewinston0
