Well, I've done lots of reading, watched lots of videos and I have decided the UV Gel set isn't for me.

I'm not an especially girly girl. I play PS3, I work on my car, I do DIY etc I can see having long pretty nails would just be a total disaster for me. Plus I change colours every other day!
For now I'll stick with shorter nails and keep painting and the £30 I've saved can go towards a Kleancolor bundle from eBay I think :D
  • Oh I love that Lady S. Just been to a craft shop today and passed on the gold bullion - cheaper on eBay.

I am seriously loving China Glaze at the moment, as much as I love changing my nails every few days I just don't have the time for it at the moment. I painted my nails on Tuesday night, Orly Bonder base coat, then 3 coats of China Glaze Gaga for Green, and the No Chip top coat and it has not budged, looks almost as good as when I put it on with the exception of a tooth mark my 6m old made with his newly grown tooth! I wash my hands loads, always washing bottles etc. Not one chip. Very very happy :D

I'm so glad Ive found this thread,Im a nail polish addict too !!
Im 42 and bit my nails for years stopped biting about 6months ago and am a total nail polish convert now, less likely to bite when they're looking pretty :D
Im a budget girl Poundland and cheapo stuff, discovered Technic polish today,I bought South Pacific a lovely teal type colour and Bonanza a teal glitter.Really pleased with them for 99p the quality is amazing, and love the colours !! Will be back in Bodycare on Monday for some more pretties ;)

Can I have some advice here please ladies?

OH has offered to buy me the Lidl set I posted before,

I've never had artificial nails so I have no idea how to use that if I bought it. Can anyone explain in idiot terms to me what you do, and more importantly how easy they are to remove?
    Thank you
    xx
Each and every system is different so I can't give you an exact step-by-step on how to do them; some use primers, others don't, some require more buffing of the nail (generally the cheaper ranges), others don't, etc but they should come in the pack anyway. For the actual application, there are loads of youtube videos posted by educators for different companies, or i'd be more than happy to help if you want to PM.

With regards to the removal, you get soft and hard gels, soft is generally what the gel polishes are and they're removed by soaking in an acetone based remover, and hard is ususally what is used for extensions - there are some exceptions to this though, like bio sculpture which soaks off - and is removed by buffing off. I would never, ever recommend that anyone (hobbyist and professional alike) fully remove hard gel as it is so easy to file too much and then, before you know it, you've removed half the nail

I suspect this gel will be the latter, which means a good bit of commitment on your part. Also, cheaper gels (and acrylic systems) generally don't have the same technology as the more expensive systems and require more 'roughing up' of the nail plate before application. That, coupled with the fact that the people buying this system will have no formal training, it's a bit of a disaster waiting to happen. I also suspect that most people will apply these nails, perhaps infill them once or twice and then shove the whole lot in a cupboard :o People forget that nail techs make it look SO easy - the acrylic beads just melt into place, the gels are so easily floated over the nail and it looks like a kid could do it - but it's not really and, even when you've been doing it for as long as I have, it's a real PITA to do your 'wrong' hand! :rotfl:

Personally, and I'm not being snobby or elitist here, but I would give it a miss and put the money towards something else you fancy.
