Options
Hi
This is my first time on forum so i dont know if this is right place.
Year ago i rent flat with TV. I used that tv to as a monitor(i use 3 monitors to play gracing games). After some time tv broke down so i report that to my agency. They order for me new tv from amazon. they put my surname and address for delivery so tv came straight to my flat.

Now i start to reciving letters from TV licence that couple weeks ago i bought tv on amazon and if i watch or record tv i need to buy tv licence.
But i dont.
can someone please give me example of letter i can write to them to say that i use that tv as monitor? My english is not so good to write that kind of letters.

Thank you in advanse.

    They wont take any notice.
The best advice is to ignore them and if they turn up at the door, ignore them as well.
if you do not have a TV you do not have to "prove anything" to them.
The only problem is, if you can not do the ignore bit and start signing things.

Op does have a TV, bought from Amazon.

Either way, just ignore them completely.

They will/may turn up, you are within your rights to not have a licence in your situation but due to your poor English you may slip up.

    Do not talk to them.
    Do not sign ANYTHING.

You do not need to but if it was me I would send a letter putting your situation on record and your English is just fine for that (better than most posters on here when debating TVL), do not enter into a chain of letters, simply one stating you:
    1. Do not watch TV "as it is broadcast"
    2. Only use the newly brought TV as a monitor for gaming/PC purposes
    3. You are aware of your obligation and no visit to check is necessary nor welcome.

Keep a copy with "I do not speak English" at the top in large letters, hand it to them if they visit, shut door.

If you want to go that route feel free to post it on here for a check before sending.
  • Hi
This is my first post and I found this info out from a friend on Friday last week! It may be relevant.....

What you've got to do is give them a call and tell them that you don't need a license because you don't watch live tv, they will ask if you use a tv for any other purpose. Tell them you only stream pre-recorded programmes online, they'll give a statement about getting caught without one (which actually means nothing) then tell them that you "withdraw their right of access to your property" those exact words have to be used. They may ask for a few more details to send that request to the "Enforcement team" (the people who knock on doors) and now TV Licensing can not legally knock on your door or even walk down your garden path.

You may still from time to time get generic warning letters saying you don't have a license, just ignore them as their system is rubbish and these letters can't even be stopped by the management so keep putting them in the bin as they're nothing to be concerned with.

When they ask for your mobile number at the beginning of the call refuse to give it to them as they don't need it.

Also they will ask when you stopped using your tv for live viewing, as they only refund in blocks of 3 months you will need to find out when you have paid up to, this can be done online.

E.G if you are paid up until the end of March tell them you stopped watching Live TV in November to get at least 3 months back. If you really feel like it you can work out what 9 months would be to claim all that money back. They may be able to do the refund over the phone either into a bank account or via cheque if not they would ask that a refund application form is completed, they can send you that or you can get one from their website - if you need help with that bring it in and I'll help you fill it out because they can sometimes ask for supporting evidence (which you can sometimes work around)

You may find these sites useful, one is about what rights you have if an inspector comes knocking at your door. The second has a forum on it and i think you'll find there people who are in the same position as you and use their TVs to play games on the Internet.

You haven't GOT to do anything of the sort.
