Why don't you cancel your DD? That is more likely to get you a response. If you already have a substantial credit on the account then they can hardly take exception.
NB: are you sure that your entire electricity bill for one year would be only £450-that is extremely low. What is your estimated annual consumption in kWh?

Spark energy isn't permitted to post on the thread. We only give company rep status to major household name companies and ones that have been mentioned on our main site.
Could you do with a Money Makeover?

Interesting. What determines whether a company is considered a 'major household name' or not? That presumably rules out all but the Big Six Energy suppliers. Would for example a major (but nationally little known) company like Ovo (60,000+ customers) be allowed Company Rep status?
If Spark Energy have a case to answer, why not let them post on here 'officially' and defend their position?

  • Interesting thread. I pay 18.85p /kwh peak and 5.33p / kwh Off Peak to N-Power on my landlords 'chosen' tariff (which I can't change as he wont hand over over the Supply number or give permission to do it)

Having looked at Spark Energy's tariff for this area, i'd be saving a small fortune on the same pre-payment E7 tariff. Heck!, I wish my landlord / agent had been 'sold' the Spark philosophy lol.

Whilst I certainly don't agree with or condone the tactics described above, believe me, you could be stuck on a much worse tariff - anybody want to swap for a nearly 19p / KWH daytime tariff?. Be careful what you wish for, your next landlord tariff might be N-Powers!

(BTW, I have no connection to Spark Energy, other than looking longlingly at their E7 rates, my rants and what I pay to Npower can be found on several other posts, all pre-dating this one by months - so button it!)

Your landlord doesn't have to give permission for you to change your supplier. Your account, your bills, your choice.

Landlords can only insist on a particular Gas/Elec supplier where he/she/them has the supply registered to them and they pay the bills

Where a tenancy contract lists a preferred supplier, but the tenant is metered directly by the Utility Co. and pays the bills, they are free to Switch and permission from the Landlord - Qtd from Ofgem "Must not be unreasonably witheld"

I suggest that Chris1973 researches Switch sites with his annual Kwh consumption figures to find a better Supplier/Tariff, then writes politely to the landlord notifyng his intention to Switch, quoting the savings figures and Ofgems guide line
