Water Damage

My Xperia Ray slipped out of my top pocket and and down the toilet as I bent down to pick something up, fortunately there was fresh water in there:eek: I pulled it out fairly quickly and towel dried it, but the back had come so water was inside, the battery was in the water for a bit longer as I hadn't noticed that it had parted from the phone. I then committed the cardinal sin and put the battery back in to see if it would work, and then plugged the charger into the phone icon9.gif not much doing so I had a look on t'internet for some inspiration, of course it was the opposite I encountered, ' don't introduce any electrical current as you will short and blow the circuits icon9.gif At this point I just about wrote off my phone.
I left it a couple of days and it fired up perfectly with all guns blazing and everything working, I was amazed, I really do love my Xperia Ray:j Oh and it has fallen on the floor a floor a few times (including concrete) as a result of slipping out of the case I bought for it, that is why I had stopped using the case. I guess I am not in the clear totally as problems may surface later on but I thought I would share a (fingers crossed) positive water damage story.

When did the immersion take place? Unfortunately once water gets in, the corrosion can continue (unless every trace of it is removed), so it may yet let you down-fingers crossed indeed that it does not.
Remove the battery, then two days in a warm airing cupboard in a bowl of rice is the best treatment.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

It happened Friday, I did leave it in the airing cupboard on Friday to Sunday, I put it in a sealed plastic container with a covering of rice, Sunday over night.

  • I think every phone I've ever had has been dunked at some point or other.. Or thrown-up over, or gone into a public fountain in my pocket, or been in an open top-pocket in the rain & come out dripping.. :(

I've always just given them an overnight sauna on a hot radiator (or on the floor-strip radiator on the bus during one particularly long journey home) and they've always been fine afterwards, both my OSFs have been plus my earlier HTC s620, so smartphones as well as dumbphones are more hardy than companies would have you believe.

This is why I'm so cynical about any company who cites "water damage" in relation to a phone as an excuse not to live up to their obligations.

Ok, I'm sure that some phones do get water damaged, and some do get written off, but my own direct experience has always been that they've been fine as long as I don't try to use it while dripping all over my hand & ear.. :p

Ps: ..And having posted this, you can bet your bum that my phone will catch a single snowflake tomorrow & blow up just to teach me right for being a !!!!!!.. :o;)
