Whether it's the area I live in or the recession I'm not sure. Happy days...
Me too.. No great loss if I cant but when times are tight like they are now any little extra can help0 -

I hope you're informing HMRC and tax credits if you get them....
A rather fine example of trolling right there!0 -

I stopped a while ago. I think people are hanging on to what they have for as long as possible due to shrinking disposable income.
I get more people asking me to patch up existing systems than ever before though. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
Yes I have.
And as the OP put in his original post;
No offer of an apology just a small note explaining that their OEM windows licences dont use the key and instead activate from the BIOS of the motherboard, as I now have a different motherboard, tough luck.
Once I filled out their contact form I got a list of suggested knowledge base articles, one of which explained to me that if I changed the motherboard on my Acer PC I wouldnt be able to use the Windows licence any more and that they wouldnt be able to support me either.
Obviously you know better than Acer what their OEM licensing terms are.
I think that you are having trouble understanding what is is that I have written.
What I wrote tallies exactly with the information that ACER gave. That they use a Royalty Key and not the one on the COA.
I also added that the COA keys are blocked from online activation. But you should still be able to use it for a phone activation.0 -
Take This: I'll have to be very careful when chosing my words where you are concerned.
1. COA/activation has not been a problem with XP - Microsoft - if you read my previous statement - has never refused me activation with a change of mobo's (having the COA of course).
2. Bypass - I'm not recommending it, just know its possible, okay?
Shall we leave it at that?
I simply do not/did not understand your choice of words. ''Using Linux to obtain a code...'' for example.
SLP involves more than just obtaining a code, so the statement did not make sense.
So it seems that you were referring to the standard methods of activation, as opposed to Pre-Activation/Pre-Installation.
In other words, when one of the elements of SLP was missing, Microsoft were happy to help with standard activation with the COA Product Key.
Now we are on the same page.0 -

Well, I put them in the local free ads for £40 and £60 respectively and not one reply, and cannot get repair work either! I think this forum is keeping me sane for now but it doesn't pay the bills.:(0 -
I don't believe that is true - 2 reasons (i) quite often when original disks aren't provided there is a routine to create yr own - I suppose these could be called "official"; (ii) most repair shops have access to all versions of the OS, and will use whatever is available - however I don't think that most repair shops would recommend changing a laptop board for a "generic" as in this case.
Hi, thanks for the thought, however, the manufacturer during system build has two options when installing Windows onto a machine, they can either provide you with physical discs of which you replace yourself out of pocket if damaged or lost, or they can opt to create a hard drive based recovery partition that has the ability to 'create' a set of 'OEM Windows, Software & Drivers' discs branded to the manufacturer.
This is why the terms and conditions of install are different.0 -

Im really sorry to hear that, I know times are hard but everyone is affected differently. Have you tried ebay? That usually guarantees a sale but at a lower return. Keep your chin up and I genuinely wish you all the best0 -
a bit of a tip..... laptops you can usually shift in the local papers for a better return than ebay - not had one yet not sold like that. I think a big part of it is that laptops are considered more desirable than desktops these days by joe public and so with a bit of luck and skill picking the right ones at the right price to buy off ebay, you can sell for a reasonable profit in the local papers......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0
