Just want sky sports - what is the best option?

I have just had a really frustrating conversation with Sky customer services. Our sky bill is £50 (entertainment pack 1 plus sports), and we only watch terrestrial tv, and sky sports.
I tried to remove the entertainment pack, and just have sports, but they say its not possible.
What are the best options to me?
Leave sky and get freeview with top up tv for sky sports? Would this give me sports in HD?
All advice welcome, I hate Sky but I want the sports!

Lot of people only want Sky for the sports. Which of course is why they won't let you do it. Murdoch may be humble, but he ain't stupid. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Hi,
I can vouch for Top Up TV - it is a reliable service, however, as previous posters have stated, there is no HD option at present.
Top Up TV is currently offering Sky Sports 1 & ESPN Sports including a receiver for £32.99 per month:
http://www.topuptv.com/skysports/ - click on the 'buy now' (top banner) & a more detailed pricing structure will appear.
The only downsides are a £20 connection fee & 12 month contract.
Should you decide to purchase, go through the Quidco site first as they are offering £12 cashback for all new Top Up TV customers, which will partly offset the cost of the £20 connection fee:
http://www.quidco.com/topuptv/
If in the future, if you also decide to subscribe to Sky Sports 2, you can also revist the Quidco site and receive £10 cashback as an existing customer (however, if I remember correctly, you have to be subscribed as Top up TV customer for a minimum of 1 month in order to receive Quidco upgrade £10 cashback as an 'existing' customer).0 -
One thing I can't understand is why they don't have football on pay per view. Not everyone wants to watch all the sports and £32.99 a month is ridiculous if you just want to watch Saturday football..0

And even more so when you have to pay the BBC another £12 a month for the privilege of watching it on Sky.
Sadly in return for this £150/year, the only sports the BBC are bothered about these days are the toff orientated Wimbledon tennis, Grand National, Boat Race and Rugby, and plead that they cannot afford to show stuff such as darts, F1 and live football. However they can easily afford £22 MILLION for yet another 'sleb singing and dancing programme in "The Voice" so they can continue ratings chasing against X-factor using licence payers money.
Except a few minority sports where they get the rights for peanuts, they do not give a stuff about sport people actually want to watch, so people have no choice to either spend stupid money on subscriptions or watch questionable internet streams.
If the BBC did their job properly, then we would not have to revert to such measures.0 -
it's so they can maximise profits, they wouldn't make as much if they just had it on a pay per view basisOne thing I can't understand is why they don't have football on pay per view.
