Hi, I am new to the site so please forgive me if this topic has already been discussed - although I did try and search for it. I am getting calls
from Premier Calls about switching from BT. I very rarely use my land line but have internet with BT, my bill has just come from BT - £170. It's a lot for someone that never uses the phone! Has anyone had dealing with Premier Calls?

Don't know anything about Premier calls, but as a rule of thumb if you are cold called by anyone it is generally a poor deal.Hi, I am new to the site so please forgive me if this topic has already been discussed - although I did try and search for it. I am getting calls

Now to your BT bill, it would make more sense to reduce that amount as £170 (per qtr??) is a quite large amount bearing in mind the usage you describe. Can you break down the bill into it's parts so that we can possibly make some suggestions to reduce it.0 -
Their website doesn't look too bad, but check their T&C's.
ie. If the customer wishes to completely terminate their contract with Premier Calls they must pay the early termination fee of one hundred and ninety five pounds plus value added tax rate per line, which represents a fair and reasonable estimate of the losses, costs, and expenses, which Premier Calls would suffer in the event of the agreement being terminated prior to the end of the minimum duration period. The customer will also forfeit any service charges and line rentals paid in advance."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
£170? I assume that's quarterly. Without any calls? Can you break that down a bit to explain how on earth it can be that much?
As line rental is £43.80/quarter, that means you must be paying £126.20 for your broadband!Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
I suspect that in this case, 'rarely' is a relative term! Lots of exclusive or premium rate calls? No free lunch, and no free laptop

They are part of a group of telecom companies that operate from the same address 158 The Marlowes / Hemel Hempstead / Hertfordshire / HP1 1BA
Optimum Calls see https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2067273 being one of them.
Advantage Teecom is another see https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/27167270 -
Katie777, I think there are many better deals to be had than either of the two that you've mentioned!
As has been suggested if you can provide that breakdown of the bill, better suggestions can be made.0 -
But first you need to address the issue of why your existing bill is so absurdly high. Please post the breakdown. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Hi,
Thanks for all your replies.
I've just downloaded my bill to take a look at it. It reads like this:
Unlimited weekend plan (3/12/11-15/1/12) £1.01
Unlimited weekend plan (16/1/12 - 15/4/12) £43.80
Broadband option 3 (3/12/11-15/1/12) £1.57
Broadband option 3 (16/1/12-15/4/12) £74.10
total line rental & other basic charges = £120.48
Phone usage £49.99
Total including VAT = £170.47
I rang BTa up once and asked why I had to have a 'plan' as I hardly
use the phone and they replied you have to have a 'plan' So I asked for the plan that would cost the least.
Do you think I can reduce this? I need my broadband as I have an online business.0 -
So what are all your phone calls that total £49.99? That does not accord with your claim that you 'hardly' use the phone. If you are using the line for businesss (technically a breach of the T&C's), and you make more than £5 worth of daytime or evening landline calls per month, you should switch to Anytime, which will give you unlimited (up to one hour) landline calls 24/7 for £5 per month. Instant saving of around £35 per quarter, or £140pa.
If the calls are to mobiles, then you need to make these out of your mobile's inclusive allowance instead.
You are confusing 'cheapest plan' (weekends only) with 'most suitable plan' (including daytime calls).Your usage appears to be quite unsuited to a weekend only plan.
You could also reconsider your broadband-do you actually use the full data allowance that Option 3 gives you?No free lunch, and no free laptop

Macman,
Thank u for yr advice. Yes, I hardly use the phone, I think £49.99 over 3 months isn't a lot and no, I don't call mobiles. And I don't make telephone calls for business. I just sell online a bit - eBay mostly, that's all. I kind a wished I hadn't asked now but thank you all anyway for your advice - much appreciated.0
