Cabin Baggage Limited Release Label?

I travelled recently with Monarch and volunteered my cabin baggage to go in the hold as the flight was very full.
We were given a "Limited Release" label and it was marked as "Not permitted as cabin baggage".
If I keep my luggage with me I guess to a really large part I am responsible for it and any damage or loss. When I give it up for the hold, what is the situation if it were to get lost, damaged...
As it happens, it was fine, it was really nice to off load it for the trip but when I re read the label/receipt I was given I was motivated to ask the question.
I have asked Monarch as well but to date, no answer. Thanks if you know.
Pete

The limited release tag is a spcial baggage tag for items not put through the baggage system- giving a unique identifier to that item. Pushchairs taken to the gate often get them too. Basically, if Monarch is the same as my airline, the LRT has the same protection as the baggage labels on hold bags, but just show it wasnt an in system bag. That said if the item was in an unsuitable bag/state/damaged already, for the hold, it may be marked on the label to inform/prevent damage claims.

  • I have had a reply from Monarch and it reads very poorly.

I am sorry you have had cause to write to us concerning your recent flight with Monarch.

I can confirm that a limited release tag is placed on bags the airline believe are not fit for purpose. This is normally placed on bags when the check in agent feels this is the case. The airline in this instance would have no liability if the bag was damaged. These tags are kept at the check in desk only.

I do hope this answers your query.

I guess I am a bit disappointed by the Monarch reply. Thought I was helping out as well as making my flight a little more relaxing. Not convinced that I did the right thing, not convinced that Monarch did.
Really pleased they replied even if I don't like the answer...
