We bought our Christmas Day turkey from Marks and Spencer. When it was cooked on Christmas Day we realised, as soon as we had the first bite, that it was 'bad'. Unfortunately it was the only meat we had cooked so our friends and relations had a mainly vegitarian lunch. As soon as M&S was open we took it all back. I was told their usual policy was refund and replace. As they didn't have turkey left they gave us money back instead. As it was our Christmas Day lunch ruined I asked if we could have some extra compensation. They said write to customer services. I did, and also wrote a letter to the chairman. Customer services wrote back stating their policy of refund and replace had been met and no compensation was possible. Thinking that Christmas Lunch was more important than any other day I wrote again to the chairman asking if he would consider compensation but got no reply. I used to shop in M&S every week but have not set foot in a store since. We now use Waitrose and Lidl!

Considering some of the things for which supermarkets do offer compensation that seems a little mean spirited given that such an important meal was ruined for a family.
Did you actually take a sample of the cooked meat as evidence of its poor condition? There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
Morrisons did the same with me, just gave me my money back and then claimed it was how i treated the meat from the till - to the fridge.
if i remember rightly (2009) was very cold and snow on the ground so the meat would still of been nicely chilled..
awaits a comment from Marks2 and we have the full bundle0 -
Surely if it was 'off' you'd have noticed this before you actually cooked it, bearing in mind the amount of close contact you have with it during preparation?0

How do they know you haven't just eaten it, and claimed it was 'off'? Did you keep some of the meat? If so, you could always have it 'inspected' by someone in the trade and get a report it was indeed bad.0

Wouldn't really benefit op though would it, afterall they've already refunded op - op just wants some compo for the inconvenience0 -
What sort of compensation did you have in mind?0

Sounds like you are stuffed."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Some vouchers or something for the OP would be a nice gesture considering it was Xmas and wouldn't cost M&S much.0

I'm pretty sure i'd notice if poultry was off BEFORE i cooked it, it must have hummed quite a lot !
I can see where M & S are coming from, how are they to know how it's been stored between buying and cooking ?0
