You can actually build a fire with a small firelighter and one dry stick, you just need to sparsely put the coal around it, normally household coal for a quicker light. Cardboard is also a great lighter.

Thats true - but you will be there an hour waiting for heat
  • Fill stove to the brim with wood and coal, direct flame-thrower in direction of stove, ignite.

A gas poker is the best way of getting a fire going pretty quick.....used one for 20 years

That's fine if you have Natural Gas. Unfortunately, a lot of us here are on LPG, or oil.
  • The gas poker fits on a small gas cylinder 13 kg I think it is butane or propane.

And if you don't have gas (or fancy using cylinders) an electric Grenadier works really well.

They aren't cheap - but if you buy kindling or firelighters neither are they and it will light any fuel.

I have no connection with the company, other than I bought one and it's one of the best purchases I've made.

Yes, I found that a bit depressing when I looked up the URL. Back when I bought mine they relied on small ads in newspapers.

Perhaps it works, though, and they are selling furiously? The price doesn't seem to have gone up much in several years. Unlike that of fuel!
