to give an idea of the savings, your energy/gas bill will decrease by 20/30%.
    mine certainly have.

and comparing to other energy users, ie your car. your engine is about 45% efficient! most of your fuel is wasted in heat. you spend a lot of money just heating up a useless lump of metal!
    Get some gorm.

British Gas gave us a quote of £4700 this weekend! If we pay it back over 10 years as they suggest we would pay back nearly £9000!
Needless to say we are getting some more quotes

try warm front, energy saving website, you may be entitled to some grants, in birmingham they do a magic boiler grant - i think still which gives you money towards the bolier, have a look on the internet first at what you might be able to get through a government grant. We nearly paid £2700 with british gas, was about to sign it when i thought that there must be another way, and there was!

    a small 3 bed semi!

Just had another quote for £2100 - bit better thank goodness.

The thing that really annoys me about BG quote is there will be some little old ladies out there that will pay that much because its BG and they trust the name

Yes we can get a magic boiler too in Staffordshire. The £2100 quote was from an installer recommended by magic bolier scheme

  • Yes British Gas are quite expensive...Paid about £2000 for a condensing boiler and power flush..however I did find it to be hassle free and they gave me a full year central heating cover. (not just the boiler)

Does a local plumber give you that guarantee?
I know a new boiler (or central heating) shouldn't go wrong..but you just never know. For the boiler you will probably have at least a years manufacturers warranty, but you may have to pay labour to get someone to actally fix it.!?

    ( Maybe \ maybe not..I don't know, but just my 2 penneth ) :o)

    Hi gooner,
Just a thought, but if you're feeling brave why not take a look on ebay? Obviously you'll need to do your research and know exactly what you need first, and you will need to be very vigillant. E.g. if you want a Worcester Greenstar 28i junior, make sure you dont miss out the word 'greenstar' or you will get a NON-condensing type combi-boiler and you want the condensing type.
I would only buy a new one, (still in box), and make sure its not too far away to pick up.
I have just bought a brand new condensing combi-boiler for half the usual price on ebay. A 2-hour round trip to go and fetch it, but well worth the saving of £400.00!
Be careful though, you do need to know the right size to get for your home etc.
    Good luck,

    Fran.

H have just had a new cobi boiler fitted. It took one and a half days. The boiler cost £500 and fitting cost £300. MY rads were flushed through and I had heat conrol valves put on too (£50 quid extra) so a total of £850.

    Hi Thrifty,
Were your radiators flushed through at no extra charge to the fitting? I.e. £300 all in? I have just been quoted £400 for a 'powerflush' on top of £400 for installation. Well done if you got it for £300 all in! :T
I think I need to get some more quotes if thats the case!
    Regards,
    Fran.
