5 year-old on different plane to me - help

Hi there - I am hoping someone can give me some advise. In October I bought 5 fights to Florida for my family for March. The travel agent booked the flights and sent everything through. The paperwork showed us all traveling together on the same flights.
Last week the travel agent contacted me saying AA had rescheduled the flights and we would have to fly separately in groups for the first long flight. Obviously I was not happy and insisted they arrange for us to fly together - the response was there was nothing they could do as AA had made the changes and there were not enough seats on the first flight now.
On contacting AA (firstly to make sure the flights existed!) I was told we were all booked but my daughter (5 years old) was booked on a separate plane as a 'minor traveling alone' and the rest of us. AA confirmed this had been booked in this way in October by the travel agent without my knowledge or consent. AA said they cannot do anything as the travel agent has control of the flights.
I have not agreed at any point for my 5 year old to travel alone and obviously this is not appropriate when we booked as a family to travel together, and sure enough she even has a separate booking number! I mean really what were they thinking? There is a definite untruth being told from the travel agent here and it looks like she has altered the e-tickets so I would not know at booking time.
I have booked on a credit card, but flights now are more expensive and quite limited as we are a large group. Any suggestions?
