Has your number ever been on Vodafone? There is a known issue with numbers ported from Vodafone, occasionally it will appear (after some time) to other Vodafone as disconnected (or routed to Voicemail) .
  • No, I don't think so... however I've had this number for many years so I might have been with Voda for the contract-before-last.

I'm thinking the best/only option is to get back on the phone to them (or go to a shop - neither is particularly appealing), explain again about the issue and what I've tried to do, and see if they will set up a brand new account and tel number for me. Then if they can see set it up so that I am still with O2 on the same kind of contract, they will hopefully cancel the old contract in order to instate the (same) new one.

Does anyone know enough about how these accounts are set up, to be able to indicate whether this 'fresh start' approach is likely to work?

They'll be able to simply change your mobile number without any issues or cost, if it's a routing issue at vodas end then it will be resolved. If your keen on keeping the number then this wont work, unfortunately if it is an issue with voda rather than O2 you will be banging your head against the wall with that.

What it might be worth doing is getting someone on voda to call up their customer services state that they can't call or text you on their phone, but they can get you on a land line, that might be enough to have them look into it especially if they mention that they know others on voda with the same issues.

I suspect a brand new account with a new number would work, customer services however wont be able to help you with that, the lead advisor (escalation department) might be, but to setup another account they might need to credit check you again, there's a good chance moving your existing number onto that account could recreate the problem though.

Oh hells teeth ! I've just moved over to O2 from Vodafone, I'm waiting for my number to be ported right now - why will it take 4 days ?

Anyway, this is a business number, I can't change it (had it 16 years, all my clients know it, it's all over my stationery), but it's going to be a REAL pain if Voda users can't contact me .:eek:
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)

Calm down dear :D! If this was a general problem don't you think it would have been all over the news? The chances of you having the same problem as the OP is remote and not worth you getting your underwear in a tangle over until it happens.

As stated above it's really not a general issue, thousands of people port their numbers in every day without any problems. Porting a number from one network to another can cause issues occupationally no matter which networks are involved, it's just bad luck.
  • I've been into the O2 shop and finally (after the O2 advisor was also cut off from O2 customer services and had to re-dial and re-hold and re-tell the whole story again... the irony!) finally discovered that it does indeed appear to be an issue with when the number was ported.

However despite it now allegedly being en route to being sorted, c/o "Mick - staff number xyz" in the technical support department, I have not heard back from them and when I rang customer services they could not actually transfer my call to this person. This, despite clear indication to the contrary when given Mick's details!

So I am somewhat closer to resolution, but my main frustration is this inability to actually contact anyone useful within the faceless, inhuman, deaf, forgetful monster that is the O2 corporation. I am now resorting to ringing the shop who tried to help me last week, in the vague hope they will chase up for me, but have little faith.

Is there a technique I'm missing, to get through to the right person and to obtain a direct contact route (eg phone number or personal email address?)
