Advice with Ryanair luggage & online check in please

Hi everyone

Have booked in online one hold 15kg baggage (£15) but it would only let me book it for the outward journey. Have tried Ryanair customer services without success. Do I have to book the suitcase for the return journey when on holiday or is there another option?

Also to check in online I understand you have to be an EU citizen. My wife is an Indian passport holder, will she have to check in at the airport (Grrr, £60 fee EACH WAY?)

Thanks very much, Robert

She should check in online in the usual way but when she gets to the airport she should get her travel documents checked at the Ryanair desk before going through security.

Thanks very much SaveTheEuro. Thats very reassuring; I read somewhere that there was a £60 fee EACH WAY if you don't check in online. Thanks again.

Ryanair allows you to check in online up to 15 days prior to travel. This means that if you are going away for 2 weeks then, to check in online for both outgoing and return flights, you have to do this the day before you fly out.

As you have already checked in for your outgoing flight then all you have to do for the return flight is to go back to Manage My Booking within 15 days of the return flight date and print off the documents.

If you are away for more than 15 days then you will have to do this while abroad.

    Hi everyone

Have booked in online one hold 15kg baggage (£15)

I thought the Ryanair baggage charge went up to £25 each way?

Thats possibly correct, I think it depends on the weight, I paid £15 for 15kg case one way.
  • Just to be clear, OP, you must still check in online to avoid the 'orrible fee.

I think Neil49 has assumed you have already done this, but if I read you correctly, you do not say you have done anything other than make the booking online so far?

So, do make sure that you do check-in online and do not leave it too late - if you haven't been through the laborious check-in online process (almost as laborious as booking thesedays) and haven't printed your boarding cards outside 4 hours before the scheduled flight time then open up your wallet because you'll have incurred that 'orrible fee x2 persons!

As Save The Euro says, when you arrive at the airport, first visit the Ryanair desk to get your documents checked (Ryanair info desk not baggage drop desk I think - maybe STE can confirm?), then the baggage drop desk to drop off your bag. So you'll need to allow a little extra time.

As for only managing to book a bag outbound so far, you can always add a bag via the 'Manage My Booking' link as Neil says, but contrary to what he says, you may find that if you have booked the flights as a return ticket under one booking reference, that you will be able to check-in for both outbound and return flights before you go, even if the return flight is a bit more than 15 days away. I did one two years ago that was flights 16 days apart and I checked in for both 2 days before I flew out. I think the 15 days is more of a problem when you book flights singly. Anyway, you'll know when you check in for the first one whether it is offering you check-in for both.

Also, when you check-in now with Ryanair, it will offer you the chance to buy (further) extra bags / priority booking etc.

The good news is that after the initial booking, any additional sums you decide to pay e.g. for extra bags will NOT incur a further card fee.

Thanks a lot 2sides2everystory. Since the post I have booked one case for each way through 'manage my booking' as you said. Yes its absolutely crucial to check in online, will do so for both flights before travel. As far as I understand it you have to queue at the 'bag drop' at the airport to get travel docs checked (for non-EU citizens). Apparently it used to be at the Ryanair desk but I'm told this has changed. Thanks again.
