i pay £32 for gas and £53 for electric a month !! as i'm never in when they come to take readings so when i giver them a confirmed reading they always have underestimated my usage! but gas should be going down as only use it in winter for heating!'Children are not things to be moulded, but are people to be unfolded'0

Agree...
One bedroom top floor tenement flat... high ceilings & huge rooms, no insulation, bad single glazed windows, no central heating.
Combined £69 per month elec & gas, reckon I'll owe a little on top. (Overpaid gas (one fire & cooker) underpaid elec.)
Been more than mindful this year... two cardigans are mandatory! Bathroom is a fridge.
Changed suppliers twice in just over the last two years... so energy price hikes haven't impinged too badly.0 -
30 pounds a month gas and elec mid terrace insulated draught proof and about 1 foot of insulation in the attic and all but 3 lights energy saving0

i was with powergen paying £75 a month and my last bill seemed to shoot up by over £100 so i decided to change to scottish power as that was quoting me £10 a month cheaper through uswitch but then when i got the dd instruction it was higher and means a saving of only £5.
I have just rang powergen to see if they will tempt me into staying and have been put on an 'internet' tarrif which means i get 9% discount for duel use and a 6% extra saver discount, she said my DD should now go up to £99 a month from the £75 i was paying before i half switched!! but i said no and she changed it back to the £75.
I can now watch my gas and electric usage online and see what i am spending so will see what happens but if my next bill is as high as the last i will look at changing again.
I live in a three bed detatched.
I think gas and electric prices are shocking and, like most people, dont really know what to do for the bestComp wins so far........

what you have to think about is how you use your gas and electric. When prices started to climb, I looked at how I could save on energy as my provider was amongst the cheapest and the £22 a year saving by southern wasn`t worth bothering with. I bought low energy light bulbs, turned down the thermostat and nagged my children into not leaving tv, pc`s etc on all the time. I also hid all my daughters remote controls as they were turning the tv onto standby cos they couldnt be bothered to get out of bed to turn it off. By doing that I was able to keep my Direct Debit at the same amount despite the price increases. It is obvious that I was wasting almost 25%. I used to think well I can afford to pay that amount and couldn`t be bothered to turn off lights etc. A good idea is to look at how much you use on a daily basis and economise. If you are doing a roast on a sunday, why not also cook a few casseroles or lasagne etc at the same time. That means that 1, you saving energy and also you saving time. All you then need to do is use your microwave to heat it up which is much less than actually using your oven to cook it. If your meter is outside then you can ring your supplier for a key or pick one up from a DIY shop.0

oops, I pay £50 for gas and elec on an online tariff in powergen area 4 bedroom house 13 radiators, 4 tv`s all low energy light bulbs apart from kitchen and bathrooms which have halogen. 3 pc`s tumble dryer washing machine dishwasher plus all the usual. Tumble dryer only used once a fortnight and dishwasher and washing machine on full load. The energy efficiency lines are very good at helping you to reduce what you are using.0
