I have heard M&S are good.

We are with E&L and pay £6 per month for our 2 year old pedigree Staffordshire Bull. We have made a claim once, it was a pain in the bum to claim but they paid up. Not sure if it would have been easier with another company or not sometimes it just the same old thing, quick to take your money but not so quick to pay out.

anyone had experience with direct line?
had a quote and its gonna be about a tenner a month
  • my 4 month old black labrador is insured with Petplan for £24 a month. Before taking this out I had a good look round online for insurance. I found M&S to be more expensive for similar cover, which is why I stuck with Petplan.

I do think the area you live in etc alters the premiums quite a bit though, so check each one carefully for your own individual circumstances and area.

Luckily I haven't had to claim yet, so can't comment on how good they are for paying out if necessary. I have to say £24 is a lot of money a month but I was persuaded to get insurance by my sister who reminded me how much she had to pay for vets bills for her dogs previously. I was also warned about the one condition limit etc, which made me steer clear of the much cheaper premiums with other companies.
  • Ive got my 18 month cocker spaniel insured with churchill , she had to have an expensive operation when she was about 6 months (chewed and swallowed a big peice of gardening glove ,) and they paid up straight away with no probs , the insurance for the year cost me £109 , I was expecting it to be more this time (because of my claim) ,but it was the same again.
    Id recommend them.

E&L are notoriously bad - if you ever hear someone say a good word about them then they're probably an employee!

we have our dog insured with pet protect

We used to be with pet plan but it was quite expensive so we changed to pet protect

it's still more than other ones but when i asked my vets they said those 2 as they are lifetime pet insurance meaning they are covered for life some pet insurances dont cover for animals over 8 the senier years its best when you are looking just check out if they will cover for the whole of your pets life as some people dont realise their insurance dont cover their pet for life and end up paying a big bill
  • I work in a vets surgery, and we tend to reccomend petplan & m&s- there is another good one but I can't remember off the top of my head. I wouldn't reccomend sainsburys, more than, tesco or direct line

    i hope that helps you

I'm with tescos for my springer, they have paid up everytime but next time around I will go with petplan, they are more comprehensive. Everytime I make a claim with tesco I get the impression they aren't sure which end of the dog is which but would plastic-wrap him & sell him in their meat asile if they could get away with it.

Just my impression, nothing I can put my finger on.

Well done for insuring, dog insurance should be LAW IMHO:o
