AirAsia X

Does anyone know anything about this?
There was an announcement in January that AirAsia were launching a new long haul budget airline called AirAsia X offering some mega cheap tickets, e.g. London to Kuala Lumpur for £100. I can find several news stories online which say they will start flying in July and tickets go on sale in February.
Now, as I am planning on travelling round Malaysia in September, this is of huge interest to me!! :-) However, I'm having great difficulty trying to find out the date tickets go on sale. There is no mention of it yet on AirAsia's main website, and I've emailed them but had no response.
Does anyone have any info please? I'm so excited - I want to start planning my travels and I'm curious about these flights!
Thanks
Laura

I don't think they have a definite start date yet.
I suggest you plan to fly cheaply on Oasis to Hong Kong, and then a budget carrier on to KL.0 -

If you do this, Air Asia flies from Macau, rather than Hong Kong (it's 40 mins on the high speed ferry). However, this would be an incredibly time-consuming way to fly, as you'd get to Hong Kong and have to double back to Malaysia.
Another option is to get a cheap flight to Singapore and then fly from Johor Bahru (a quick taxi ride over the Malaysian border) to KL, or from Bangkok to KL, again with Air Asia (both cities are big hubs so cheap flights are possible). You can book etickets from the Air Asia site.
Yet another option is to take the train - the Thailand/Malaysia/overnight service is fine and comfortable.0 -

Another option is to fly to Malaysia. By the time you've done any of the above suggestions, you'd have lost half your holiday, and spent more than a cheap Malaysia flight.
I wouldn't bother waiting for cheap Air Asia flights - they are expected to launch circa 2010, i.e. not at all.0 -

I read this yesterday about a family of 4 return for £300 TOTAL. Anyone got any extra info on this?0 -
Thanks for all your replies.
I had thought about other routes, but I'm worried about eating into the time I've got in Malaysia as I've got lots I want to do in only 3-4 weeks as it is! I will investigate further though.Sam_Bee wrote:I wouldn't bother waiting for cheap Air Asia flights - they are expected to launch circa 2010, i.e. not at all.
Does no-one really see Air Asia X as a goer then? These news articles seem to suggest otherwise... have I missed something?

I don't know any budget airlines to Singapore, but know that Singapore and Bangkok tend to be cheaper to fly to than KL. I agree with an earlier poster than sometimes it's better to bite the bullet and just fly straight to KL, but I'd recommend both Singapore and Bangkok as stopover destinations - if you only want Malaysia just fly there, but if you want an interesting diversion, both these cities are great0 -
*bump!*
Anyone else have any other thoughts or info on AirAsia X itself?
Thanks
