i took flu about 4 weeks ago and struggled in to work as it was near the end of the week and did'nt want to leave work short staffed, I felt and looked awful but carried on anyway. The moral of the story is it turned into a chest infection and still I carried on but in the end it got so bad that i am on the sick for 2 weeks, so dont be a martyr and struggle in to work, stay at home and get better, you are more productive when firing on all cylinders.0

and that is exactly why you are off work sick. send him an email then if you don't feel able to talk or if he contacted you by text do the same (only if you have free ones tho!). but like i said don't offer to do work form home, that would make him think your well enough to work but can't be bothered going in. besides if your off sick you might as well enjoy it as much as you can, your boss is just probably miffed that he has to do your work while your off!0 -
I get really frustrated when I hear stories of people being off sick & getting hassled by their employers - THEY'RE NOT ALLOWED TO DO THIS!!! Apologies for the shouting, but if you've phoned in sick for the day they are not supposed to then bug you about when you might be back.
Tell your boss that you're still throwing up, and point out that as you have an ear infection too it means your antibiotics aren't getting the chance to work properly. As you won't have been eating much this week you need at least 24 hours of eating normally before you can even think about going back to work.
Try NHS direct website for information, cos if you can send him a link backing up that with sickness you shouldn't be at work he won't have a leg to stand on!
With no-one covering your work, I know exactly what you mean, but look at it this way - what's the worst that can happen? Are you in a job making life & death decisions? If not, then it'll all come out in the wash eventually. Look after yourself and remember to drink lots of fluidsTotal Debt 13th Sept 2006 (exc student loan): £6240.06

Employers, bosses and line managers etc can tend to have a bad attitude towards absentism/sickness and many make this a point of their management style. Usually this policy lasts until that person is sick. However in my experience employers who act like that usually have tiered employment terms and protect themselves accordingly.
Nevertheless you need to take care of yourself and get over this spell of illness. Work will still be there (or not). If needed get back to your GP and get a sick note organised. Don't know if your employers have a sick pay scheme or rely on SSP. Either way don't go into work until you are better.
