After any form of vomitting bug/illness (excluding pregnancy morning sickness) you should have at least 24-36 hours off and be eating properly to ensure that the bug is completely out of your system. People wouldn't be impressed if you passed it on to them.

Do you have anti-biotics for your ear?? Is this responsible for the vomitting, ear inifections can cause balance issues and dizziness, which could cuase vomitting.

    Hope you are feeling better.

Of course you shouldn't be in work you're not well!

this often happens someone is always there and when they are not they are missed, you shouldn't feel guilty for being ill, from the sound of things you haven't had much time off sick. If I were yuo i'd take the whole week off and get better.
  • I think you're right to stay off until you're completely better. I know some employers are more understanding than otehrs regarding this kind of thing - but if you're sick you're sick and you can't change that. And if you go in before you've recovered either you give the bug to everyone else at work, you stress yourself out and make yourself iller, or you mess up the work you're supposed to be doing because you're not well enough to concentrate.
You're boss may well think you're taking the p*ss, but so what? Let him think that- he can hardly prove that you weren't sick, can he?
And to be honest I don't think an afternoon extra in work is really going to make that much difference- give yourself 'til tomorrow and let yourself recover properly.

If you have had a bug, and have been actually sick today, I would think there's a fair chance you could still be infectious, therefore I wouldn't go into work (schools wont let kids in for 48 hours after they last vomited for exactly this reason).

If you are still feeling so ill, you wont be able to work effectively anyway, much better to get yourself better and then go in and deal with the fallout!

Have you had much other sickness recently? If not, your boss has no right at all to give you a hard time. If you go in this afternoon, will your boss REALLY think any better of you, or will he just assume you weren't actually that sick in the first place......probably the latter!

Stay at home, get some rest, stop feeling guilty and hope you start to feel much better soon xx

    I agree with Welshlassie,

Also, it is your boss's problem that they do not have adequate cover when you are not there- surely you go on annual leave for longer!

In my company we have a "buddy" system, when someone is off (either holiday/ ill) the other person covers their workload. Unfortunately the guy i cover for was "ill" (I have good reason to believe he was not actually ill) for 3 months

Peppermint tea is very good for upset stomachs, particularly if you have had the runs too! It eases those horrible griping pains you often get.

If people stopped "being brave" and stopped coming in when they are still infectious, I wouldn't be off right now.

  • I would honestly detail how you're feeling right now (say "better but still not right, vomited this morning..." whatever) and say that you hope you will be able to come in tomorrow but that you will call in the morning to let him know for sure as you don't want to be ill at work or pass on the bug. I don't think he can ask for anymore than that really.
