I have to agree with the consensus...customers ARE stupid...mostly they care about what discount they are getting, not the bottom line figure they will be paying.
Only yesterday I had someone who I priced up for. Not a big kitchen, supply only and only a couple of appliances. My price was £5300, this equated to 60% off the total RRP. They had a quote from another multiple retailer (typical shed flat-pack kitchen) for £4950, which was 55% off the furniture and no disounts on anything else. Also a 3rd quote from an indy for £4800 (rigid built carcase, very similar to ours) but the only "discount" he offered was £500 off the appliances.
So they bought from me because, and I quote; "You're offering the best deal. We would have got it from C*********s if they'd given us more discount"
It's a funny old worldIf it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

OMG!!!!
I give up now - that's it I'm off!
Does anyone want to make an offer on a fairly successful kitchen business in Hertfordshire?

People are, sadly, often stupid. I have had customers ask me why I cannot offer an 80% discount when Howdens can, or why Homebase are having a 60% off sale when we are only having a 50% off one !
Multiple does not always mean bad just as independent does not always mean good though. Would agree that a really good independent should be better, but far from all of them are though.
I am not thinking in % discounts. I just have an idea of the max I can afford to spend on a new kitchen/what is worth spending on small terraced house and I am just trying to find the best quality/customer and installation service available for that price.0 -

Sorry CK, far too 'daaarn saarf' for my liking lolIf it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

I had a Magnet trade kitchen fitted. A nice solid kitchen - though if you look closely the veneer is lifting in a couple of places. Also he used an appliance 'pack' from Magnet. They are Candy and from my experiences I wouldn't touch Candy with a barge pole.0

If the veneer is lifting, get back on to whoever got it through their account and get them to sort it out. Also he used an appliance 'pack' from Magnet. They are Candy and from my experiences I wouldn't touch Candy with a barge pole.
Neither would I. But the tradesmen loved Candy as they were cheap. Got fired into touch last year though and were replaced with Whirlpool...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

interesting thread this and its interesting that people in my business (s/h cars) are more interested in how much they can have off the screen price rather than the quality and care i took in buying it into my stock
wifes been made redundant and so with her package of money wants a new kitchen ,im happy with the orange boxes weve had these last 15 years but hey, anyway man duly arrived this week to price up for her from one of the big names and went
nice man she said
quote came yesterday and i cant get my head round it
it shows the furniture as something like £2000 less 50% and then all the othere bits and the quote pans out totally at £6400 which equates to me as basically a £5000 labour bill
no electric fittings as i can understand and it will only fit the sink if its within 3 feet of a suitable outlet ,she wanted the washing machine moving so that would be extra too
now i made her make a plan so its not as if she went in blind
i dont get it what is she actually paying for from this big place because i asked her to price the same cupboards up if she went and walked in the store and they all come out 50% less again than their 50% discount price
i see my wife as an average mug punter but even she realises that theres something wrong in a system that depends on bigger discounts equals bargain
we are now looking at getting a man in to rip and fit who lost his job when the kitchen manufacturer went bust that he worked for and who is now a one man band self employed joiner again
i guess all these big places depend on extended credit terms to survive?0 -

If I were made redundant, a kitchen would be the last thing I would spend the money on. I would keep it for emergencies in case I couldn't find another job. Perhaps that's just me...0
