GB stickers

Anyone, ever, been stopped, questioned or penalised for not having one on display whilst in EU?

Yes, it happens, not to me ever, but the French police sometimes have a heavy road side presence and pull over random cars, if they pull you over this is one thing they would check aswell as that you have at least 1 yellow vest & a warning triangle

I usually buy a number plate with GB on it, to avoid having to put a sticker on the car.
They usually pull you over for beam deflectors, rumour has it.

A friend of mine got in trouble for no GB sticker at a motorway service station in Belgium last year - at the exit there were cops checking all drivers with a breathalyser, checking drivers licences, and a brief visual car check (tyres, windscreen, etc). They asked him to pull over, wait and then gave him a lecture on country stickers. They didn't fine him, but it all took over half an hour, so he then missed his Calais ferry and had to wait for another one (2hr).

Personally I don't bother with a GB sticker (we do 2 to 4 Euro trips each year), instead I bought EU licence plates on Ebay - they were about £12 for 2 (front and rear) including postage.

Nope, never. I've always used a Scotland one instead. :)
  • Back from day trip and managed to avoid any penalty for non-compliance! Am amazed by the number of things that arer apparently required by law in other EU countries now. No fewer than 2!? warning triangles required in spain, f'rinstance. Find it hard to believe that these laws are all obeyed so conscientiously by residents there. Do all French drivers REALLY carry a complete set of bulbs with them at all times? I sometimes suspect it's a conspiracy between the EU and the ferry companies to scare us into buying all these items on the ferry...

Probably, as when you get pulled for a bulb out, if you can't change it there and then, you get a massive on the spot fine.
(Now the question is though, what do you do if you have a car that you need the dealer to take apart to change a headlight on?)

All these things, vest, triangle, lights, you will probably never be stopped to check for them, but if you aren't using them, it'll cost.

I go reguarly, and bought all mine from Auchan years ago.
