Traffic Lights?
Hi All
Can anyone tell me why a set of traffic lights would have 4 lights going down, the top one is red and is lit, at the same time the green light is lit at the bottom. Why would you have a red and a green light lit at the same time?
This is not a one off, it has been like this for years, but it seems to confuse drivers as they don't know whether to stop or go!!!
If this was a fault, surely it would have been corrected by now.
Thank you.

Because you'll find that one of the greens will have an arrow on it for a right turn or straight on so when the red light is on but the one with the green arrow on, say pointing right, then those going in the direction of the arrow can continue.0

Thank you for your reply, i am aware of arrows, there aren't any arrows at all, just the red light at the top and the green light at the bottom. Drivers hesitate because they are always confused, not just myself. This has been the same for years, i am thinking of contacting the Council because it is driving me mad!!!0

We've got one like that here that always catches people out... when you get close to them you can see that the bottom green light is in a crude shape of a bus! It's supposed to signal that buses in the middle lane can go, but cars next to them have to wait for the normal green light.
People who aren't used to the junction frequently drive through at the wrong time though, or toot their horns and swear at the poor sod in front.Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
Probably a bus priority light.0

Oh god, don't get me started on that sodding thing.
First time I encountered it was at 10PM in the middle of winter on the way to collect an eBay win. You come out of an underpass very close to that roundabout and suddenly traffic lights everywhere. It's London so probably got cameras too, so you slam on the anchors to avoid a ticket, then the BMW that was tailgating you has to make a sudden lane change to avoid hitting you, and narrowly misses a cyclist.
Seconding the requests for the location of this traffic light, ideally a Google streetview link.0
