Parking Eye at Sunderland Hospital

Just received a letter from Parking Eye, which has a photograph of my car and registration and demanding £40 to be paid as the car was in the carpark for 49 mins. (I am aware that the free time is 20).

The thumbnail picture is dark and cannot see who the driver of the vehicle is, however the registration can clearly be seen.

I've read a few threads on this site, stating Parking Eye should just be ignored, however I have read on another site that I should just write to them asking for proof of who the driver of the car is.

Any advice here, I'm planning on just ignoring. If it was proved it was me driving the vehicle would I be liable for costs?

  • Ignore it, ignore it some more. Then, when you've done that: ignore it.

If you don't tell who was driving, they can't do a thing. So shhhh!

Thanks. That's the advice I was hoping for and what I will do.

You have paid for a permit, they have reduced the parking facilities, you are not obstructing emergency vehicles or other vehicles, so there is no loss , if it went to court the loss is all they could claim for, which is zero! They won't go there though as they would lose as this clearly is a penalty charge which is illegal of them to issue.

So please don't pay them any more money , keep it yourself and spend it on something nice, I know I do when I get an invoice like this ;)
Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

In exactly the same place. Ignore them completely from now-on - at worst it means they will send you a few more letters.

Check the forum sticky so you can reassure yourself and tick-off the demands as they come-in.

Yes, it is better not to admit to being the driver but certainly isn't a big problem if you do.

The point is, that what they try and charge you has no legal basis anyway. A private company has no right to issue fines against the driver or anyone else. But don't expect them to tell you that- they would go out of business if they told the truth.

What terrible sin did you commit, Dave?

Even if you’ve appealed and even if you’ve inadvertently confirmed who the driver was, it doesn’t make their actions any less unlawful.

Instead of unlawfully harassing the wrong person, they can now unlawfully harass the right person.

Ah that's reassuring! Was in the car for over an hour in a drop off zone. Waiting in the car however! Think thats harsh but apparently you cant wait anywhere it simply shows you entering and leaving the car park. Unfortunately i dropped myself in it by admitting i was driving! Shall now ignore all following letters! :D
