haha not bad. We have an old miner's terraced cottage built in 1910.. Last winter we had 3 degrees Celsius in our kitchen...
Thanks re: threads about heaters. I have read quite a few already so I have a much more clearer picture now. Still quite interesting that even with technology is moving on and after the discovery of so many new materials, electric heating has not moved forward ever since it has been invented. I understand the physics and therefore the reasons behind it but it is still hard to imagine. However reality is what reality is. On the long run (apart from the case if we sale the house and move into an other one) I am looking into the possibility to purchase an air heat pump. I know the the ground heat pumps are more efficient but because of the initial investment it is not an option not to mention that We have a tiny garden.... Air heat pumps claimed to produce 3 times more heat than the invested electricity. (producing 3kw of heat for every1 KW of electricity.) They are not too pricey either and easy to install. It is ideal apart from the big ugly fridge what you have on your house's wall. What I don't get is that if they are that good and seemingly really affordable (if you compare the price the to CH, why not everyone using them?0 -

Do read the posts - vast numbers - on ASHP. The general idea seems to be that you are unlikely to get a COP of 3. And it also seems that there are LOTS of people speccing and installing who really ought to be in another job (or maybe unemployed, or in jail).
Lots and lots of unhappy people. But also some happy ones - e.g. jeepjunkie. Read cardew (chartered electrical engineer), read albyota (who installs them - in the Midlands, I think).
Good luck!0 -
Indeed. Be careful with ASHP as Scotland is not the warmest of places, and as the Temp goes below 0, so the COP goes below 3.
Having said that, I have installed 3 separate 4kW ASHPs for £700 each all in. They are working very well, are easy to fit, and should pay for themselves in 2 years. But we do live in NW France, close to the sea, so it doesn't often go below zero.0
