A word of advice to all the cat owners who have been buying Pets at home woodchip cat litter.
Stop buying it and find another brand.
I've been getting this for my cats for the past couple of years, and it has worked out good value for a good product.
When one of the cats used the litter tray, only a small amount of the litter had to be replaced, and due to the large size of the pellets, it never got stuck on the cats paws.
However, they have recently changed the makeup of this product and it is now useless.
The pellets are far smaller and of a different composition, and the contents of the litter tray turn to dust after only one or two uses.
The smaller pellets also get wedged between the cats toes and get dragged all over the house.
A quick read of the recent customer reviews for this product will show that there are many unhappy customers.

I agree with you on this one. I used to like this product but now I find it horrendous. The dust that it generates is awful0

I found this too.
I used to buy it all the time. I noticed this new bag was 'different'.
It seems smellier, yet I'm diligent about keeping it cleaned out and solids removed. I've got 2 elderly cats and they're not going outside very much at the moment because of the cold weather so it's getting used more than usual. Once the bag has been used up I will find something else.
I (or they) prefer wood pellet cat litter.0 -
I've been complaining about it for months. It used to be small, light coloured chunks but the last few bags have been really long (2" + in length) and a much darker wood.
I've gone from a 30 L bag lasting 3+ weeks to under 2 weeks.
I was assured they'd changed it back and after many months of buying I thought I'd give it a go again.
First bag = similar to the old stuff, nice small chunks & light in colour
2nd bag = long chunks & dark wood .... useless!
So, I won't be buying it again until they sort it out!Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

PS - Shaun, it sounds as if you're the opposite of me & like the big chunks?
Honestly? It's really dusty and just disintegrates - terrible .....
I've been using As*da's meantime - 10L bag for £2.81 and pretty good quality HTHGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

we buy this regularly & i can't say i've noticed any difference over the past few months. perhaps i've just timed it right & not had any of the 'new' stuff? i've just had a delivery of 2 bags so will soon find out.
this happens so often, something works - then they go & change it, for the worse...
we've got the plastic ribbed mats on each litter tray which help keep mess down, like these.0 -
For the people (or their cats) who prefer the larger "old style" litter, I've recently bought some of this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pettex-Pampuss-Woodbase-Litter-Litre/dp/B002OSSO7C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1328973556&sr=8-1
And found it to be perfect.
Although Their cat litter has gone downhill, I must give Pets at home customer service 10 out of 10.
I sent them an e-mail stating my disappointment at how the litter had changed, and I received a very prompt reply giving their reasons why they changed it (lots of customers didn't like the large pellets), and they asked me for my mailing address.
Today I received £15 in Pets at home gift vouchers (neither asked for or expected).0 -

Wow! I buy OKO plus cat litter from Zooplus in the 40L size and this lasts me around 2 months, and that is with 5 cats using 3 large trays. 2 weeks is really poor for a bag that size :eek:0 -
I used to use this all the time, but agree it was awful when it changed!
I use this http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/cats/cat_litter/clumping_litter/golden_grey/29960 now after a recommendation on this site. It may seem expensive at £11.99 per 14kg but it is so worth it and I only order every 6/8 weeks or so ( have to order multiples of 2, but free shipping! )0 -

Thanks both ... I may look into these when I need some more (just decided I'm pretty safe to start using my 6 weeks emergency winter supply I put away in the garage in case we were snowed in again this year).
I've looked at the Oko before but it seemed expensive as had no comparison for how long it lasted.:) I've been "on wood" so long now, I'm not sure that I could move back to (or the cats would let me) a clumping litter but may give that some thought too.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Still trying to find a suitable alternative to this. The old litter they had was great, the larger, darker pellets which held odours well, the new stuff, smaller, lighter pellets just made the house look like a litter box when it turned to sawdust.
I did email PAH about it, their response was that their customers who bought the smaller bag, didn't like the litter when they stumped up for the bigger bag, so PAH changed the supplier of the bigger bag to suit them. I suggested offering two types of litter, to keep both customers happy... went down like a lead balloon.
We've used Asda's Smart Litter, which is a bit hit and miss. Some weeks we can get great bags, then others it's almost like being back at PAH again. It's done us well in the meantime though.
I've picked up a bag of Tesco's own brand pellets today, after sneaking a peek inside the bag in the store, it actually looks very similar to the old, great pellets at PAH. Fingers crossed!0
