Help Using DVD-Ripping Software

I have a large collection of films that I would like to watch on my iPad/iPhone/AppleTV, but I cannot get Handbrake to rip any dvd properly.
I have read about downloading other programs ect, but I don't know where to begin. I use to use ImToo (Knock off copy of a mate) but since I stopped using cracked products, I stopped using it and deleted it.
I like the settings you get in Handbrake, able to select the file type you would like to use (ATV/iPhone/iPad), the ability to enable subtitles and to choose what size I would like.
I also like the settings that came with imtoo, choosing the file type automatically altered the file size, so I didnt end up with a 7GB file for my iPhone.
The problem im having with Handbrake is that once the DVD has finished ripping, and I decide to play it back via iTunes (as that is where it will need to go to put on my devices) the sound is jumpy and the image is interlaced with about 40 square boxes of static (normally about 80% of the play time is static and the other 20% plays a jumpy video.
Can anyone help me sort out how to rip, or point me in the direction of other software that can do the same jobs that I mentioned above.
By the way I know all about the legal ramifications on ripping my DVD collection and who the DVD and the content belongs to ect.

These are free I think:
cdRipper (FocusSoft.net)
DVDFab (Fengtao Software)
freedvdripper (nesoft)
DVDDecrypter
DVD9Ripper
winx-free-dvd-ripper0 -
There's always the old standard freeware DVD Shrink.A bank is a place that will lend you money if you can prove you don't need it.0

Been using DVDDecrypter for years ,although its not supported now its still as good as anything on the market
you will then need a prog to convert to the format you want ,something like free video converter from here

I vouch for DVDShrink as its very easy to use. We've got loads of DVDs we've saved to a 1TB drive on our mediacenter and can watch with a click of a button.0

sorry to jump in which of these copy programmes take the copy protection off the DVD so you can make a back up DVD?Spending my time reading how to fix PC's,instead of looking at Facebook.0

+1 for DVDFab - the 30 day trial is fully functional and has loads of options to rip to different formats and removes copy protection.
After the trial expires, you can still rip to a folder or .iso but only at full file size - I do this then use DVD shrink to reduce. A bit long winded, but free!
DVD decrypter is ok but can't cope with some of the latest copy protection.0 -
free video converters the pazera and iwisoft are good i used them for video to mobile phone etc
iwisoft has a nag it goes to there home page to check what version you have other than that had no problems

so good rippers recommended there ^
DvD Shrink usually uses Nero to burn not many have nero installed
DVD Shrink uses imgburn to burn too the better version imo

DVD Shrink certainly does, and compresses files to a size that will fit on a single DVD. I use Nero to actually burn the files.A bank is a place that will lend you money if you can prove you don't need it.0
