Hi,
your best bet is to go wireless to be honest..
However, on thing you can do is use the plugs that take the feed from your router, into a plug that goes into a socket..
you then have a second plug somewhere in the house and out of that you can run a cable which will have the broadband feed in it.
You can even get these as wireless extenders also..
Problem with anything that goes through the main power cabling is, if one part of your sockets in the house are on one loop, and the other ones are on another you can run into problems.
Why don't you do wireless?0 -
My only problem with wireless is that the cottage walls are too thick.
The idea with the plug in from your router sounds good.
Any thoughts as to were to get them.0 -
I looked into this a while back but didn't follow it up.

wireless speed is inconsistant, but homeplugs (powerline networking) are faster (various speeds available 14/85/200 mbps) and reliable.
If you are streaming media over network @ home homeplugs are better option, but best bet is CAT5 networking0 -
WebUser mag had an article about it in last issue (154). https://www.webuser.co.uk0

Webuser has lots of articles..
In particular:

Also found the following store selling an 85Mb adapter for £23.49 (out of stock though).

Looks like my project will get revisited in a month or two. Will post back with the results if it goes ahead.0 -
Yes, I've been using them for over a year. Plug them in, optionally set security, then they just work! No problems here.
I use this type: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=412257
I think they look better than the "built in to 3-pin plug" type and they keep cooler.0 -
Update: After a house move, i needed a wired connection to the router for my Tivo. A CAT5 cable was an option but was ruled out because of the route the cable would have to take and the amount of drilling etc. requried to hide the cable. So I purchased a pair of Solwise 85Mb homeplugs (came in a twinpack). Just plugged them into the mains at the appropriate locations, connected up to the network using network patch cables (supplied) and it worked first time
No configuration needed.
