Good areas for speedy broadband for work

Hi,

I can live anywhere on mainland UK and work from home, but need a good high-speed broadband. Currently I am in a rural situation in Scotland which is not ideal, although I am close to the BT exchange which helps due to limited wiring.

I will be moving south over the next year or so and need a combination of low house pricing and good broadband speed in order to make the most of my situation. Areas like Bridgend in Wales are attractive, but can anyone suggest other options?

    You find Bridgend attractive??? :rotfl:

I live in Cardiff and have fantastic broadband speeds (we pay for Virgin's 30mb usually get around 34mb even on weekends) but the house prices are very high in the nicer parts.

If you're looking at South Wales then as well as Bridgend look at Penarth, Newport and Barry south of the M4. North of the M4 doesn't have fibre optic cable so Caerphilly, Llantrissant and Pontypridd might not meet your requirements.

What sort of house are you looking for?

Thanks for responding LJ. I have never been to Bridgend and I know it has its problems, but the housing looks more affordable than most. That's really helpful to know about needing to be south of the M4, and I am looking for a structurally sound 2-3 bedroomed house with a nice garden. I am waiting for a divorce settlement which in turn is waiting for a house sale and who knows how long that will be in this climate? I am also getting to old to get a mortgage and need to save like hell for a pension instead.

I have considered renting first but this will mean two lots of two broadband installations, phone switching, etc. so my company might not be too enthused.
