  • I'm about a quarter way through mine which is looking at an anti-microbial peptide acting against the S.aureus bacterial strain (the one behind MRSA).

It's going very slowly as the bacteria have refused to grow in the turbidometric assays, meaning I need to do all the bio chem experiments again :(
    spacey :)
  • Mine - feminist perspective on the changes in sexual consent law - is due 30th March, I'm just coming to the end of writing my first chapter. Have spent most of my time reading for it, it's mostly a case of just putting it together now. Can't wait to get it done ! I concur about fatigue. I love my subject, but we've been spending too much time together!

    I've been Money Tipped!
OMG - I just sat here and made myself carry on until 2am to get everything done.

It actually took for ever to sort out all the paginations and presentation of document up to scratch even after I'd finished the conclusion!!!

Draft hand in is 9th March so I can now feel free to concentrate on all the other stuff - like an 3000 word essay on anthropology of tourism that they've given us only 4 weeks to do - Aaargh!!!!

Don’t know how typical my vision of it is. So far as writing up. You have to make an effort, break the back of it, but it is quite interesting. Left over is 10% which is not so interesting but it has to be done. You do that but there is still 10% of that left to be done which takes just as much time and is getting to be a real bore. After you’ve done that it is still unpresentable for the 10% of that which is not finished An excruciating crashing bore and the worst of it is that after that there will be the remaining 10% of that which has to be chased in inconvenient places. When you have done that guess what you notice still needs to be done, about 10% which takes a long time. So before the start remember to start as early as possible and to along the way always prepare those things they advise you like complete references, the diagrams are very time-consuming etc. If you’re lucky, a couple of years later reading it through you won’t be able to see what you thought was so terribly wrong with it and regret you are no longer so on the ball as to see these faults.
Sorry my posts so long - not time write shorter ones.

  • You guys seem to be lucky that you do yours alone. We have had to do joint research and write-ups in pairs or threes. If you think it's infuriating and frustrating doing it on your own when you can control your own agenda and work when you feel like it or are inspired - just try doing it in pairs/groups where you have to stick to pre-arranged meetings and force yourself to work even when you have no motivation or inspiration. I can't wait to get mine finished!

Argh, how awful! One of the things that I've hated most about uni is the group work - you always get one or two in the group who just won't pull their weight, and expect you to do it for them. I really feel sorry for you Snow Angel.

My dissertation is driving me nuts, its not helping also that my tutor hasn't got a clue on the subject that I am doing dissertation on so the only thing he can help me on is layout, which I have pretty much got sorted.

Luckily I have almost finished mine!

Anyone else have/had problems with their dissertation tutor?
