LPG Not tanks

Our heating and water system is run by four LPG bottles they are so expensive at around £100 for two which barely last a week and a half and that is running them for an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening, and that doesn't really warm the house, there is no mains gas as we live in a rural location.

Wondering if anyone has any advice to offer on this as or how to heat the house better as its always cold during the winter.

We have a 2 bed cottage heated by LPG (propane) bottles. There are 4 X 47kg bottles, replaced two at a time for approx £100, so it seems similar to your set-up. We run the central heating (inc water heating) twice a day and more at week-ends. We use two bottles every 4 weeks in the winter. We think it is expensive at that level.

Unless your property is twice/three times as big as ours, there is something odd going on. House insulation, boiler efficiency, slow leaks of gas etc should perhaps be investigated.

    good luck
  • Ours is a four bedroom cottage, it has insulation, double glazing and brand new doors the ceiling are only 8 foot so the heat isn't going into a great ceiling vault. I cannot justify these prices, if I had it on how it should be run we would be bankrupt.
  • sounds like you'd be much better off with electric heating, i would start thinking about storage heaters.
  • Thank you for your reply
  • £50 for a 47kg lpg aint that bad take a look at the thread on here some pay £95 for one, personally we pay £47.50 for each and even in winter get 2-3 weeks out of it for heating and water(small house),is your boiler efficient?

LPG aside. How can you expect to heat the house with the heating on two hours a day in winter? By the system starts to get up to temp its off with none of that heat into the fabric of the building...

Mains gas is not the only option to heat homes cheaply but not through oil and LPG ;)
