BT automatic renewal

I rang BT to say neither myself or my Mum have had letters reminding us that our 12 month agreement is coming to an end and they said they no longer send out these letters, which seems to be borne out by the number of people saying they haven't had letters.0

AndysDad, can I ask, just to clarify, I am assuming your 'renewal' date is February or March, so both you and your mum received Auto -Renew reminders last Feb/March time for the period Feb or March 2011 to 2012 and neither of you have had letters recently saying that the Auto-Renew system has now ended and explaining what that means to you as customers?butterfly )i(0 -

It is very convenient of them to do this isn't it. We didn't even receive the paper bill for this quarter, even though it is marked 'online and paper' on system.brewerdave wrote: »I'm getting a bit confused about this "abolition of auto renewals" from last December.
I assumed that, about 4 weeks before my current "contract" for free evening/weekends calls ends in early July this year, I would receive a letter/email informing me that it was ending and that I would be paying £3.15 pm for the package unless I agreed to a contract extension of 12 months.
Is that interpretation correct? And has anyone first hand experience of this happening since December?
Brewerdave and AndysDad - what happened ? did it automatically renew ?
I have just checked bill and they have charged the Unlimited E+W till June but they only give the refund until the contract end date (25/03) so yet again a bill abnormally higher than usual.
I don't think there has been one bill that has been normal for last few years, they are all riddled with credits and recharges for the constant price changes.
Wonder if I can persuade parent to use 18185 all the time and cancel this plan with 4 days to go till end date.0 -
My agreement doesn't "end" until 7th July ..so can't say what will happen yet!!0

I had called BT after finished my contract last week and they didn't auto-renewal anymore, instead put me on Unlimited Anytime Plan with Line Rental cost £19.50 per month (12 months contract) and I had asked BT what offer will they give to me as a loyaly BT Customer since 2001 and I never get any deal with BT. They look into my account and the deal and say yes they do have a special deal for BT Long Term Loyaly Customer (more than 10 years only) and offer me 12 months contract wth Unlimited Anytime Extra Plus for £1.50 a month plus Line Rental of £10.00 a month and say total inclusive of VAT are £11.50 per month with a saving of £96 a year better off. I was so happy and thanks BT for that deal. I asked BT why there isn't any product "Unlimited Anytime Extra Plus" on the website ? They say it only deal for BT Loyalty Long Term customer for 10 years which I had been with BT. They had other package called "Unlimited Anytime Extra" for BT Loyalty Short Term customer who are with BT for 5 years.
Sound like BT had a secret loyalty term, so, if any of you who are with BT for more than 5 years, it worth to ask them to look into it and give you a better deal. BT had also informed me that the deal is only one off per household in every 5 or 10 years only. So, next year I will revert back to standard at £19.50 after 12 months.
BT Unlimited Anytime Extra Plus give you £1.50 a month plus line rental £10.00 a month total inclusive VAT is £11.50 per month (for customer who with BT for a minimum of 10 years at the same property) 12 months contract with a saving of £96.
BT Unlimited Anytime Extra give you £2.50 a month plus line rental £12.50 a month total inclusive VAT is £15.00 per month (for customer who with BT for a minimum of 5 years at the same property) 12 months contract with a saving of £54.0 -
Thanks flight747.
I'll give them a ring next week, I'm not too happy that this Unlimited e&w has appeared to auto renew.
I wonder what loyalty deals there are for customers who have been with them for 50 years !0 -
Heck no - you've missed a lot out, it was:
Various local telephone companies either private or council run.
National Telephone Company
GPO (General Post Office)
Post Office Telephones
British Telecommunications
As the the point at hand - BT's scheme to charge for Unlimited E & W to match the customers existing package is the fairest way to go. Imagine someone using the service extensively, to find billed for all weekly off-peak calls? It always falls oin the customer to review their call costs, and at least an opportunity to cancel can be taken for the following month.0 -
I have been with BT for over ten years but hve never had a particualrly good deal with them, and am only changing because my job pays the phone line rental and broadband so I feel obliged to go for the cheapest supplier.
So we have just changed our supplier from BT to Sky (for phone and broadband) as it is much cheaper.
However, BT are billing us for the remainder of our 'contract' which seems to be an automatically renewed 12 month term of which we weren't informed. It is around £60 which I am going to dig my heals in about paying!0 -
I finally got round to querying the auto renewal. This was the reply I got :-
Evening and Weekend Plan
The offer you have been getting for the past 12 months is a monthly discount of £3.15 off the normal monthly rental of £17.75 for the evening and weekend calling plan reducing it to £14.60 a month.
The auto renewal contracts have been stopped from 02/12/11. This means the offer no longer automatically renews and unless you contact us and renew the offer for another 12 months, you are charged the normal rental charge of £17.75.
Please call our customer options department on free phone 0800 800 030 and choose option 2 to either discuss renewing the offer for another 12 months or if no longer needed changed to the unlimited weekend plan £14.60 a month, the charge for standard line rental.
I understand it now, they have renewed the 'plan' but not the 'offer'. I don't believe we received any notification that this was going to happen. I think they should have written a week or two in advance of the renewal.0
