I have gone from an old back boiler to a modern one, my gas bill has halved and my draughty Victorian house is toasty warm. I also put in a modern bathroom and en suite which has significantly reduced my water bills too. Good luck with your renovations.0

Totally shuttered
Sounds like we need to get the boiler in as soon as. Sitting shivering today because 1) it's May and 2) if I put it on it will cost the earth!

Banked £116 from le cochon today so we are now over half way to our first £1000 overpayment.
Still not rented the other house yet and the first month won't bring anything much in because agent fees etc but from then on it should help. It will be let from June 14th.

Hello All,
Long time no see!
Mainly because I'm not doing very well with mortgage overpayments at he moment, mainly because we are doing work n the house. We have £848 saved but can't make an op until we have £1k. Even then, I'm wondering whether we should save for the kitchen extension first, while interest rates are still low.
So far we have knocked the original (separate) bathroom and loo together and made a gorgeous shower room with a frameless shower and lovely basin unit and loo, and we have made a very small bedroom into a luxurious ensuite bathroom - big bath and basin unit and loo. Both are gorgeous - quite designery and contemporary. We have also had a new central heating boiler which has already cut down on the gas bill and so will pay for itself. We have also decorated the bedroom and so we have really started to make the house our own. Everything takes a while as Mr C works away and weekends are too short.
Next we are decorating the remaining smaller bedroom to be a study.
Anyway all in all love, love, loving being here, and we will get onto the overpayments eventually.

Nice to see you I am in the exact same position I have done all of the work on my house over two years and now have the biggest mortgage i have ever had, but my house is lovely and I really don't regret it. I will be back on the mortgage free band wagon in February, after a very non-MSE holiday in January.0
