Bon Soir!

PoppyOscar and Le Cochon are back!

Installed with Mr C in La Nouvelle Maison and starting to think about how to pay off this mortgage - much more of a challemge this time as its £130,750. However, there are two of us this time and I'm now earning much more than I was when I embarked on it last time. (Old thread here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/722039.)

This time we can only make OPs of £1000 or more. Until Mr C sells his house things are going to be tight but once that happens I think Mr C will be on board too :D.

To date we have put £195 in Le Cochon and he's being fed regularly. I might put the money into Premium Bonds while it's waiting to become £1000 :).

The house is lovely - 1930s semi. 4 beds (one very tiny so a great study or dressing room). Two good sized receptions and a decent kitchen. Lovely little garden and not even all clay. We need to do some work but it's perfectly liveable while we decide what to do (and wait for some money!!) This is a happy house - I can feel it already.

So, I'm relying on you guys for inspiration again and to stick me back on the wagon when I fall off. Hoping this diary will be less dramatic than the last!

Good to be back again!

PO xx

PS: BTW when did the site change? I go offline for 10 days and look what happens! :T:T:T:T:T

Bon soir - shiny new thread and shiny new house; lovely. Glad you are happy in life and in your new place. With both of you on board for the OPs you should make mince meat of the mortgage .

Hope Mr C's place sells soon, that will really help.

Yay Poppy, you, Mr C and Le Cochon are now installed in La Nouvelle Maison :j

I know you've never really left us but 'welcome back' to the gang :p

I'm looking forward to hearing about all your progress and house updates, it all really sounds lovely. I know it probably doesn't seem to have happened quickly for you while you were going through it but as a reader it was great to hear how quickly you sold your house, found another and moved in in what seems like a relatively short time, it's nice to know that happens as the press seem to have us believe it's not happening :o

Wishing you and Mr C (not to mention Le Cochon) a very happy life together in your new home

    Regards

Morning all. Le cochon got a few pounds fatter over the weekend and as soon as I find the bags I'm going to bag up the money for premium bonds whilst waiting for the £1000.
We have a man coming soon to insulate the loft which will help with bills but they can't do the cavity wall as there is no cavity! May have to think of another solution for that.
Have been saving nectar points for the impending moment when we start to pay the mortgage again and I think we should be able to food shop for free for about a month!
Need to do a breakdown of figures in half term and come up with a plan.
Oh it's so lovely to get started again!

  • Emptied le cochon last night and ran out of bags for change when I reached £155 in change. Still have a pile of silver and the coppers to sort!

    Good evening All,
I have now bagged up over £200 and will get them to the bank in half term then changed into premium bonds. Highly likely then that I will win the mortgage! (Not!)
I finally get internet on Saturday so will be very glad of that and again.
Have tried to change my address on my driving licence and today they have written back saying their records show I have a foreign licence so they won't do it! I did have one for a few years but relinquished it in 2007 when I came back to the UK. God knows what hoops I'll have to jump through now to prove their records are wrong. I hope I'm legal to drive. Why is nothing ever simple?????

  • Yay internet going in today! At least I can do away with trying to do everything on a minuscule iPhone screen now!
MSE-wise water metre going in on Monday and loft insulation on Wednesday. We'll need to put a brick in our cistern as it's an old fashioned high level flush which resembles Niagara when you pull the chain!
Then we (I) will be starting seriously as first mortgage payment goes out on March 1st! I have a secret aim to get the first £1000 op paid by end of June. I don't think it can be before then as we still have Mr C's house.
Half term this week so aiming to sort lingering boxes and maybe if we get some sunshine get out into my lovely garden - can't wait!

  • No water metre as thy have to take the drive up so couldn't do it instantly. Had a long hot bath to celebrate.
My mum bought me two chairs for the bedroom today from Next. Will be really lovely.
Mr C off working in Wales. I'm going to finish unpacking boxes this week. And maybe make some curtains. I found some sale material that I liked today and it matches the sofa swatch. Making them myself will save a fortune. And having curtains will keep the warm in my lovely cosy back room. I'm thinking thermal lining. :)

  • So much for my plans this week - the insulation men have had to postpone! Two aborted missions this week.
Having a cheap week though - only spent just over £10 on groceries and still plenty to eat.
Went to get the curtain material but had to order it so something else I can't do! However, it was in the sale at £10.80 a metre as was the lining and because of the repeat in the pattern I should have enough to make cushion covers too.
Emptied 6 more boxes today and the house is beginning to look really nice.
Hope everyone's having a good week.
