Are expensive seeds worth it?

Netto have been selling seeds for 19p per packet - don't know if they are any good, but as I am new to veg growing, I didn't want to spend too muchYou're only young once, but you can be immature forever0

Thanks for all the replies!
Have you been watching that grow your own veg programme too? My wife now wants to live the 'Good Life' and grow our own fruit and veg. I think I am going to be dusting off my spade in the not too distant future."We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0 -

I've just put my name down on the waiting list for an allotment (2 years wait) at just 28. Should have an allotment by the time I am 30 :rotfl:0 -

In previous years I have sown and grown using 'easy to buy in gardencentres / highstreet' and have had good success. T&M, Fothergills, Suttons etc
I have wondered the same question - whether the price makes any difference to the seed quality.
So, this year I have bought from a slightly wider range of suppliers, with a whole range of prices! I will report on sucess rates:
https://www.alanromans.com (as previously mentioned), many seeds 50p, linked to T&M
Wilkinsons
Seeds of Italy - seed quantities are very generous, if you will use them all the price seems fair, and my experience of their rocket seed was that it was excellent quality, very reliable and plentiful.
seed swap with complete stranger (postage cost only!)
loads of saved seed and leftover seed form last year!
and others I cannot think of at the moment......0 -
Don't know if this has already been posted, but I used to work for wilkinsons years ago and the seeds then where Johnson's just packaged as wilko's as far as I know this is still the case, unfortunately this year the wilko's own range seems to be more limited than in previous years or is it just me ?You can't have everything....where would you put it?0

For reasonable priced seeds try Dobies Seeds, same as Suttons but no fancy packets. Only available mail order I think. And if you get together with some friends you can register as a Gardening Club and get discounts. I get all my stuff from them, we get a 40% discount on seeds.0

Plant them at one/two week intervals to stagger the arrival of the fruit/veg."We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0
