Cancel BT D/Debit before switch to another

I am leaving BT broadband & my new provider should go live just 2 days prior to my D/D in favour of BT is due. If BT do not alter their currently outstanding bill which includes rentals for the next period, I will be owed a large amount and have to wait for a refund. Can I safely cancel my D/D at the bank now or could that result in BT switching off my broadband. The agreed switchover date is Feb 9.

I wouldn't recommend cancelling the DD until everything is migrated over and if you are owed any money I am sure BT will contact you and credit your account accordingly.

If there's no account, and the amount owed is more than £5.00 - they'll send you a cheque to the address they hold of file for you.

To be fair to BT when I left them they were prompt at refunding any overpayment. I wouldn't trust my current provider, talktalk, to do the same.

I switched home phone from BT recently and didn't cancel my DD and refund was received about one month later. Nice to report once in a while when things go well ;)

Same with me as well when I switched from BT a few months ago.

Although OP once switched over I would get in contact with BT to make sure their systems are showing you have migrated away, as I did have an initial problem with this and was still set up to be billed by them. Was all sorted though once I spoke to someone in a UK call centre:)

TT do not automatically issue refunds to ex-customers. You need to contact them to request it.

    Very naughty IMHO.

    Hi All,

If credit balances remain after closing a TT account, an invoice detailing the credit and the process to receieve a refund is dispatched to the customer.
