is it possible to unlock sony ericsson J100 or J220?

hi,
i'm needing a new mobile because the battery is useless on mine. I'm using a T Mobile PAYG sim and a vodafone PAYG sim and just need a new handset.
the sony e J100 and J220 seem cheap in carphone warehouse on take5 but the assistant said they can't be unlocked. is this true?

either can be unlocked but not for free.

thanks. i wasn't expecting it to be free. its just that the assistant in CPW said they couldn't be unlocked and he suggested i bought a nokia which was a little more expensive
i think the sony ericsson would probably be more robust. what do you think?0
