The FOS have previously accepted level cancellation charges and so rather than for you they had to pay their software providers £6 for the sale, then £4 for the policy pack, £3 for the call centre agent who sold the policy, £2 for the call centre agent who cancelled it etc. Instead they say they spend £X00m on acquisition costs, they sell Y policies and so the average cost of acquisition is £Z. As long as the cancellation fee is below £Z it tends to be accepted. Given affiliate marketeers can get almost £100 for each sale you can guess that Z generally isnt a couple of pounds.
That said, they should be able to relatively quickly tell you what the cancellation fee and the charge for time on cover was.0
