if the pc is trying to dial another number without you knowing then on broadband it carnt. if your phone line is connected to your pc for the dial up then it might. there was a scam where someone could tell your pc to dial a premium rate number without you knowing and rack up your phone bill.
for someone to track what you press on your keyboard you need a keylogger and i too have the svchost service running on my pc. i dont think it would be that which is the spyware.0 -
I would recommend that you use this http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
I use this if I have any doubts about any virus etc, and I am not sure what I have on my PC will deal with it.
As it is an online scanner it will not be effected by any faults that are on your PC. I think you will find it quite effective.
It plays up just a little I find sometimes but then usually works second time round so if this happens, persevere.
Hope this helps you.0 -
IMO you've made the right decision to stay off line until sorted! If you cant now find SVHOST then don't panic.
SVCHOST is a system file that checks your registery on startup. There may be a number of versions of it running. I've no previous knowledge of it attempting to dialout.

Run a virus check and clean everything up. You are best to do this in Safe Mode. Run the Updates for windows etc. Then do another AV and spyware sweep for peace of mind.
Once everything is clean set your AV to keep your virus patterns up to date.0 -
I purchased Norton Anti virus 2007 yesterday and eventually got it properly installed today. It discovered and removed :j 9 viruses including a trojan and worms. I had a few other anti virus software packages installed on my computer but they never brought up any problems. I think I will definitely stick with Norton from now on.
BTW I accessed my bank account online today after everything had been removed and updated, fingers crossed I wasn't too quick of the mark.0
