After 20 years of yo-yo dieting I joined SW 10 days ago, and I lost 7 pound in my first week (I am a size 20 at the mo) Normally I lose weight very slowly, so that is unusual for me.
I think the new extra easy is very simple - unlimited lean meat, fish, eggs, rice and pasta, as long as at least 1/3 of your plate is fruit and veg. Also unlimited fat free fromage frais and yogurts. I think it works because it's a very low fat and low sugar diet.
On top of that there are the syns, so you can have your wine or chocolate or mayo or whatever treat you like. As a shift worker sometimes I am up for 24 hours, so at least on SW I can have an extra meal if I need to.0 -
I need to lose weight and I've been looking at diets again (:o), I don't know if the information I found can be of any help (as I don't attend meetings), but this is what I've been looking at:
- calorie counting: I like the DIY approach, there are free sites that help you with that, e.g.
http://www.myfitnesspal.com/
(v. good although their database is not very accurate, as most entries are from other users and with different versions for each food item)
- WW I'm a WW veteran, always a great fan, but the new diet it just too complicated. I used to be able to calculate points in my head using calories and sat fats content, but the new system is too confusing for me. IMO It makes you too dependent on expensive calculators and encourages to eat ready made meals, much easier to count.
I like cooking to scratch too, but I think this is much easier to follow if you buy ready made stuff and WW meals.
- SW: sorry can't comment, never tried it because it didn't sound too healthy and well balanced to me from what I read.
- Scottish Slimmers: they have classes, only in Scotland, but can be followed online or you can buy a book on ebay if it's available.
It's my favourite, I found it through a post on the WW forum, by someone who like me found the new diet too complicated.
It's calorie counting but simplified, you don't count vegs and have extra portions of dairies and fruit. If you like me don't want to count every single thing you eat, this is good. They also have a system called booster with very little counting.
This website gives good reviews of every diet (if you ignore the bits where they want you to sign up to their website):
http://www.weightlossresources.co.uk/diet/slimming-world/review-diet.htm
(just search for the name of the diet in the search box)
PS is anyone needs to lose weight because of PCOS and traditional diets don't work, this is a good resource (the insuline resistance diet is highly recommended by someone I know who is doing it): http://www.pcosmatters.com/pcos-diet
(if you don't have PCOS please ignore this link, the recommendations are specifically for people with PCOS)

Put it this way. I have been a member (on and off) of Slimming world for 4 years. I have heard of slimming world "converts" (people going from WW to SW) but never WW "converts" (people going from SW to WW). Its not a diet at all, EVERYTHING can be made slimming world friendly.
Fry up for breakfast this morning, pizza for lunch and having steak and chips for tea. All using free foods and healthy extras.
So when I go to the theatre tonight, I can use my syns (upto 15 if I want too) on chocolate (a Freddo is 5 syns each, so I could have three melted and dipped into fruit!!)0 -
it is defo maintenance which is the worst bit...
how many of us have been to a slimming class ( be it WW or SW or Rosemary Conley- whatever!) lost the weight only to regain it.. lose it and regain it again...
its not which club/plan you choose its the 'keeping it off' that is the hardest part..
( and yes i have been a WW member for years on and off and lost and gained......... not at a club now but still need to lose weight... .....)
we need our brains to be re-programmed........ but i do not fancy the idea of lighter life. after all, some of us still need to cook for others in the household..0 -

I totally agree with this. When I lost it a few years ago, I wish I had carried on the classes (especially as they were free) this would have kept me on track I am sure.
The maintainance is really hard if you don't keep the support up.
I also don't like the thought of lighter life, doesn't seem as you get much real food and what a way to spend the rest of your life on bars and shakes. If you have a family how expensive would it work out, them eating normal food and you buying the lighter life products? I love cooking and would feel really cheated if I couldn't.
This time round, I intend to carry on with the meetings, whether it be once a fortnight not once a week, this way I am sure it won't go back on.8 months to go till end of the IVA :j:rotfl::T0 -

it's mad isnt it that we have to get someone to weigh us..( ok if it is free but you still have to get to the club and sometimes its a faff!)
i blame dieting for making us fat in the first place:rotfl:0 -
I did ww for 2 years and lost 4 stone.....then along came new pro points, and for 9 months not lost a 1lb!! In fact as I gave up since oct put on 1 stone!! I have gone back and tried again for last 4 weeks but only 6lb better off, which I lost in 1st week back on it!! I did a measure over the first 6 months of new pro points and did not lose 1lb, but lost 5 1/2 inches.....but that was my increase in excercise!! Really thinking about SW but could just do with a freebie to get me started as really strapped!!
If anyone knows of how I can get a free membership or some free classes, it would be really appreciated0 -
for years i was one of these people who were so unhappy about their weight and let it get them down and did absolutely nothing. I didn't research any of the different groups, I simply joined SW as a friend of mine was talking about joining it. The night I joined I came home and studied my book from cover to cover, I thought to myseld "i really have to do this" but in all honesty i was expecting it to be another fad where i just gave up after a few weeks.
Now, 6 months later here I am 2 stone lighter. I can't believe how easy it's been! It really isnt a silly diet, it's a lifestyle change! Don't get me wrong I never deprived myself of the things I wanted, i still have my chocolate and I think in those 6 months i've sat in poss 3 weekends lol. Everyone has their own opinion on these groups but mine is definately Slimming World all the way!!!
(p.s it really does help if you have a consultant who is just brilliant)0
