Slimming World V weight watchers

I was amazed when I joined slimming world last year, just how much diets have changed.
With slimming world there is very little counting and certainly no calorie counting. The emphasis is on what you CAN eat,not what you can't.The only thing I don't like is the name.It should be called Eat-lots-of-fantastic-food,without guilt, World IMHO.
According to what other people are saying,it looks like maybe WW have something similar. For me,I wanted to start any plan with the best chance of success,so I visited a few different classes till I found the one with the best consultant, one was truly appaling btw.
Why not ring up several WW and sw consultants and askthem to explain the difference, then do a recci0 -
I did w.w years ago on "no count" and did really well. Went back last year and did propoints, which wasnt too bad, but they've revamped things a bit this year and have introduced something similar to no count (I think called simply filling??), and you can do that on its own or alongside propoints (just as you could do no count alongside the old points system)0

I would trial both and then go with the one who seems to have the best group or consultant. I think the systems are pretty similar now and it's really the level of support that makes the difference.0

That is a good idea, although it may not work out so cost effective, I need the support so worth it in the long run!

Jut had a look at that and it does seem very similar. Someone told me they did away with this and just had the new point system, which scared me half to death cos after 15 I can't count :rotfl:I just loved the freedom of the nocount, knowing exactly what I had to point, sooo easy!8 months to go till end of the IVA :j:rotfl::T0 -
joesaunt, have you come to a decision yet?,I rejoined WW last night,(free join and free class with voucher from newspaper)..I like that even when counting pro-points that all fruit is now free...think il give the new pro-points plan a good try this week,if im too hungry or no decent weightloss then il revert back to "old points",as at least i know it worked for me in the past...good luck with whatever you choose.Slimming World..Wk1,..STS,..Wk2,..-2LB,..Wk3,..-3.5lb,..Wk4,..-2.5,..Wk5,..-1/2lb,Wk6,..STS,..Wk7,..-1lb.
Week 10,total weightloss is now 13.5lbs Week 11 STSweek 14(I think)..-2, total loss now 1 stone exactly
GOT TO TARGET..1/2lb under now weigh 10st 6.5(lost 1st 3.5lbs)0 -
I did WW years ago and lost about 1.5 stone, which over the years has slowly crept back up (but then I have had a baby in that time). I have periodically gone back, but didn't have the motivation, because I didn't have a lot to loose.
I did try Slimming World but I couldn't really get on with the plan. My leader was overweight, so clearly the plan didn't work for her. What I also didn't like about SW was that you can't easily work out syns, so if you need to eat when you are out, you don't know what the value is. I have a WW calculator which I carry out with me and can easily work out points values.
When I've had no2, I will defintely go back to WW.0 -
Well, have changed my mind and after looking at the WW Simply filling I have decided this is what I am going to do. It seems very similar to the old no count, which worked so well.
I rang a WW leader last night and she is having a new class start next Weds and it is just down the road from the SW one so suits me fine.
Will let you all know how I get on.

I suggest don't do either. I am doing Lighterlife and can totally recommend it. You get counselling to deal with your long term eating issues so you won't ever have do this again. WW and SW don't offer that and that is their downfall. That an this concept of syns and cheats etc. What a horrible way to think about food and your attitude towards it. Food is also not "free". All food has a calorie content and therefore will contribute to weight gain. Don't get fooled by the names they attach to these things. Simply accept that your relationship with food needs to change and get proper help to deal with that.0

Well I am sorry but I totally disagree with the comment above re WW. I am following WW and have lost 111 lbs, hoping to make that 112 lbs (so 8 stone) when I go to weigh in tomorrow.
I don't consider ww to have syns or cheats as was mentioned. Each person has their own daily pro points allowance, how one chooses to use it is totally up to them, should they wish to have a slice of cake why is that labelled as a syn or cheat? Each person on WW gets 49 weeklies point, again each person can use them how they like or not use them at all.
I chose to use them at the weekend which has worked really well for me.
In terms of the 'free' foods, yes WW's has foods you don't have to point, so like fresh fruit, but as mentioned they have calories and its about sensible eating of fruit still, no person is going to loose weight if they consume say 10 bananas etc. WW has assumed the recommended portion of 5 a day is being consumed and thus based on this, this is why they're exempt from pointing them.
Also the 'so you won't ever have to do this again' approach I find completely wrong. WW to me is not a diet, I am changing my life style with real food, I have to do this for the rest of my life. If I choose to eat the amount of food I did before, then yes I will have to do it again because I ignored everything I have learn't.
What is the point of joining WW to then get the weight off but not continue to follow it afterwards? You go onto mainteance points with WW, more points a day to maintain your weight.
WW has introduced filling and healthy days, which is about portion control from a list of suitable foods, you then have the 49 weeklies to use for things that are not on this list. For me I have not tried this yet, pro points has worked for me.
Yes I know I am biased, but to me WW just makes sense, its teaching you about your surroundings with the foods you're faced with every day and making a choice.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160
