Ladies and gents
I would like a bit of help in deciding which group to join.
I joined WW a few years ago, lost 25 lbs on what was the no count system. It was a dream, it worked there were no counting points, weighing food or any hassle just following very sensible rules.
I did join slimming world once and found the red and green, syns and healthy extras soooo confusing, I gave up!
Both the groups have revamped their programmes now and I need a bit of help choosing.
I am 44
Need to loose about 25lb (I put it all back on)
Office based
Like to cook from scratch and drink wine :-)
The slimming world class is easier to get to, but could manage the WW if the new system is good.
Please can I have a bit of help!!
Thank you

I have never been a fan of slimming world, and to be honest, the people I know that are on slimming world tend to look unwell. I don't like the idea of not being able to mix certain food groups as I want my diet to be as stress free as possible.
I also did weight watchers a few years ago when the pure points thing first came in. I found it easy to follow and that is what I have started doing this year. So far I have lost 14lbs and am finding that I probably eat more than before I started. I am not convinced about the new points system that WW uses and because I really don't like the patronising woman at our local meeting, I have my weigh in on a Monday morning with hubby supervising.Starting weight 17st 4lb - weight now 15st 2lbs
30lb lost of 30lb by June 2012 :j:j:j (80lb overall goal)0 -
I have done weight watchers a few times and do well while I'm on it buying all there food
but when I come off it I'm back to square one
I never wanted to do slimming world for the reasons you said the idea of red and green days scared me lol
But
Slimming world have a new plan called extra easy which is similer to the old w/w plan your talking about
I have been on slimming world for 2 weeks and have lost six pounds and love it I don't even feel like I am on a diet more heathy eating x
So slimming world gets my vote0 -
I was looking at Weightwatchers Online, but there wasn't a lot of detail online and tbh, in the end I thought what's the point of hassling with points value, when I can just count calories.
I haven't done a calorie counting type diet for years, but I'm finding it really easy and have lost 4 and a half pounds fairly effortlessly in the last 2 weeks. I don't have too much to lose and am feeling very relaxed and happy with the whole process, much to my surprise. the plan I'm following allows 1400 calories a day, which is very manageable for me.
One of the reasons, I think is because I have told myself I can eat or drink anything I like! This has made quite a difference psychologically to my approach this time. TBH, I don't really feel like I'm "on a diet". I am also finding it very economical as I am using all my storecupboard foods, not necessarily running out to buy special foods for my diet and am eating less than those diets with lots of "free foods" which encourage you to snack and in my case, work my way through the entire fruit bowl every day!
I do log absolutely everything I eat and am using the Boots Diet, which has a seven day free trial, then costs around £1 a week. I think there are similar sites for free, but I got used to using the Boots one and do find it very user-friendly and quick and convenient to use!

Im having the same dilema as OP...I lost 1st with slimming world years ago...stopped following the plan and put on 1.5st...then in 2010 i lost 1stone with weightwatchers on their points plan..but hey ho!!,ive put that back on again too:o
I realy like slimming world for the weight loss part..its maintaining thats difficult, and i miss bread(you are allowed bread, just not as much as i'd like..lol)
I preferred the old Weightwatchers points system..i briefly tried Pro-points...didnt like it,allowance was 26 pro-points daily(alledgedly a pro-point is only 40calories..no wonder i was hungry!)altho there is a weekly 49 pro-points allowance too,for extras,treats etc.
I want to lose 14lbs in total, tonight i have the choice of rejoining slimming world or weightwatchers..I quite fancy either weightwatchers new filling and healthy(bit like slimming world or WW. old core plan) or sticking with WW old points system..i still have my old books and calculator,I was actualy going to rejoin WW last week,i just didnt get organised in time for class.Slimming World..Wk1,..STS,..Wk2,..-2LB,..Wk3,..-3.5lb,..Wk4,..-2.5,..Wk5,..-1/2lb,Wk6,..STS,..Wk7,..-1lb.
Week 10,total weightloss is now 13.5lbs Week 11 STSweek 14(I think)..-2, total loss now 1 stone exactly
GOT TO TARGET..1/2lb under now weigh 10st 6.5(lost 1st 3.5lbs)0 -
oh i defo prefer slimming world. i do 2 green days a week, and the rest extra easy...which is exactly that....so easy!
i did miss bread for the first week or so, but no more....i never think of it..
i started less than 7 months ago, with 6 stone 3lbs to loose,:o and i have 4 stone 4.5 of that gone now...:D
i seem to be stuck at a wee bit of a plateau now (see sig.!) but i am confident that i will start loosing again soon
and see off the remaining 1 stone 12.5lbs!!! for once...and for all;)0 -
Thank you
I have just googled SW extra easy and it does look very much the same as the ww no count. I would find the SW class easier to get too and more convenient than the WW one.
I need the discipline of being weighed every week to keep me ontrack and the support of others that are in the class.
The SW meeting's are on a Weds, so I have a week to finish all the post Xmas chocs and wine!!
I found a sw ee thread on here and after reading a few pages, I think this what I am going for.
Will let you know how I get on!
Thank you again

I never liked slimming world, way to confusing for me and very limiting. I only lost doing red days and I found them so boring!
I am doing weight watchers and am loving it, you get given daily propoints, as well as weeklies of 49pp to use on what ever you want. Do you ever remember saving your points up for a treat at the weekend? Well it's all worked out for you.. They also do a filling and healthy plan where you can eat anything off the list and point the rest which comes out of your weeklies, lots of people are having success with this.
I do ww online as I work shifts so meetings were difficult to get too, and I much prefer it anyway.
As for wine, I love ww rose wine and it's only 14pp per bottle... Gets me tipsy lol.
Good luck with what you choose.0 -
i did WW years ago ( the diet was called slim and trim) and I nearly died of boredom - but I did lose 3.5 stone - I didn't make it to target because they set it too low for me !
Several attempts later all resulted in failure - found points difficult.
Been at S/W for 18 months - lost 5 stone of 7 I want to lose. The free food is wonderful - esp the fruit! I love my fruit and veg and EE with 1/3rd superfree is just great for me!
I was advised to go by my sister - she'd lost 2 stone with W/W but wanted to lose more - but felt hungry.... she went to S/W and she's now only got 6lbs to go to target!
I defy anyone to feel hungry on S/W!:jFlylady and proud of it:j0 -
