Mobile contracts

Hi, I'm in need of some advice please please please, I took a mobile phone contract out with Vodaphone a bit over a year ago and it runs out in December but since taking the contract out my finantial circumstances has change and i am really struggeling to pay my bills want to cancel my contract I have contacted Vodaphone to inform them of the situation but they have told me that for me to cancel my contract i would need to pay them a bit over £300 to end the contract which i can not afford to do they surgested that i sell my handset but when i looked into selling my handset and could only get £25 for it. I asked vodaphone if i was to send my handset back to them would this help but they said no. I have Chrones deisease and the stress of this worry is not helping my health so i wonder if their is anyone that may advise on what to do please. Thank you

afraid they are correct , see if they will let you lower the contract to a cheaper tariff for the duration of the contract

otherwise you will need to see out the remainder of the contract or pay the £300

Apparently you can save VAT if you cancel and pay the remaining months in advance.
Also, check your contract. They stopped doing this, but more than a year ago they probably still allowed downgrading to the next cheaper tariff in the second half of the min term.

Try and downgrade your contract to the lowest possible, then 1 month later phone up to cancel, and it will be be the lower price you pay then as a cancellation charge

As has been said, contact them (the payment problems part of the billing dept) in writing (don't try and get a customer services rep to help from their script sheet).

Explain your financial/medical issues and you are experiencing a temporary financial issue, you want to stay with Vodafone and you definitely don't want to have to break the contract, but you may have to if they don't help.

Ask them to reduce your monthly tariff to the lowest possible. I did this with Orange 1 yr into a 24 month contract and they have dropped a £30 p/m bill to just £10 p/m.

They should be receptive to this as you are showing (as they must) that you don't want to create a debt issue. But be clear, either they drop your tariff or you can't pay them. At least if they drop it they have a chance of keeping a good customer.

    That is not correct.

Downgrading was stopped more than 2 years ago. Even if you were able to downgrade, as you were on the older tariffs, if you wanted to cancel after downgrading, it would be at the original cost of the contract and not the downgraded price.

OP, would there be any chance of a family member or a friend who would be willing to take over the contract ? Vodafone would be able to be a change of ownership and all responsibility for the new contract would be with the new owner. This would be subject to a credit check on the new owner, but one possibility.
