Talk Talk….. Talk with their fingers crossed behind their backs.

So I’ve been with Talk Talk for 6 months – I changed from O2, because they offered a deal, and like a donkey with a carrot dangled in front of me I went for it. But apparently I’m not a Donkey, I’m more of an !!! for taking on their services.

During my 6 months, Talk Talk’s internet was at best ok – I did notice a major difference in drop out and speed from O2, but I figured – you pay for what you get, it’s my fault for going with a cheap option.

Recently I bought a house, which meant I needed to move my contract from my flat to my house, easy enough? Apparently not.

I called Talk Talk, and I was told that they don’t transfer contracts when you move, what you have to do is a) continue to pay for the service but not actually get it or B) set up a new contract for 12 months. There was no option to just see out your contract in your new property. I started to feel bullied, and expressed this, I was then put through to someone else to explain why this was and it was explained to me thus: To move property they would have to send an engineer out to set up a phone line, and rather than charge you for it, they waive that fee (how kind) and get you to sign up to 12 months instead. When I expressed my belief that there was already a line set up in the house with BT, she said “No, there’s not” with such certainty I believed she must have actually tested the line then and there, or had some kind of crystal ball?

I then went on to explain that I didn’t believe her, and that I wasn’t willing to be bullied into a new 12 months contract, she passed me onto someone else. This was now the 3rd person at Talk Talk I had to deal with, and as I was calling off my mobile the cost was mounting (My own fault). This new customer services person explained that what I could do was sign up for the 12 months, and then would be within my rights to cancel that contract within 2 weeks – and under no circumstances would I be charged for the engineers time etc. Perfect. Stupid and terrible Brazil like, but perfect.

So I call to cancel this new contract, and get told that I can’t as I didn’t pay to get out of my original 6 month contract. This is when I got rather angry, and explained again that I was willing to uphold my part of the contract and continue for 6 months, and that it was them that forced me to take the 12 month contract. He put me on hold, and finally came back and said that yes I could just continue with my 6 months. Brilliant.

Today I’ve had the BT man come around to fit a line, as according to Talk Talk it’s not there. It is there. It’s there and it’s live – now I hate to call Talk Talk a liar but… The evidence speaks for itself. The BT man has even said, Talk Talk have no idea what they are doing, and when I told him what they’ve done, and how I feel lied to… He lifted his eyebrows and says “Yes, that’s Talk Talk for you”.

So beware of Talk Talk, they have their fingers crossed behind their backs most of the time, except when their using them to cover their mouths so you don’t hear their sniggering I guess.

AND If anyone else is moving and just simple wants to carry on the contract, don't take no for an answer!:D

  • hi guys i live in the middle of nowhere & cant get a good deal from anyone coz "i'm out of the catchment area", so, sick of being ripped off by bt to the tune of 39.95 a month i went with talk talk as they can supply me with a good deal at half the price of bt, & that includes everything & 4 times the download limit. thanx ofcom for taking the initiative & not allowing bt to commandeer the market as far as rural lines are concerned. brill deal, more download limit, no hassle even tho' i live in the back of beyond & faster line speed & saved me a shed load of cash. only speaking from my & my m8 next door's experience but thanx talk talk

Nothing to do with BT "commandeering the market" and more to do with other ISP's not wanting to install expensive kit just so 2 or 3 people can take up their service. That is the problem with living in the middle of nowhere. ISP's will always go after the thickest populated areas initially, as that is where they'll make their money.

Talk Talk obviously thought they could make some money, and installed their kit, when no-one else did.
