The soft closure thing might be why the Aberdeen EM price has gone up about 10% in the last month
You'd see this with a close-ended fund as the premium increased (or discount narrowed) but only with an open-ended fund if they are major holdings in their underlying assets.
I guess this "thundering herd" effect is why they are soft-closing.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.
Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.0

I suppose it shouldn't have come to any big surprise that Aberdeen are closing their fund, but at least I am already in, so hopefully I can continue to invest at least for a while.0

HL are removing it from the "Wealth 150" list.

Not that I think it matters, I'm sticking with the fund.0

It doesn't matter because, 1) that list is a load of tosh, 2) HL automatically remove most stuff that soft closes in the same way that BestInvest knock funds down to a couple of stars under the same circumstances.
I tend to hold little that either HL or BestInvest rate highly and it bothers me not one jot.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

That fund is largely invested in Brazil which has raised foreign investment barriers I think.
I hold the Aberdeen Pacific fund, not stellar but good sector I think
I will be buying Investec emerging markets debt fund next week. Currency strength can count for alot of the gains seen I think and I expect dollar to decline in importance compared to actual trade of goods done which raises the influence of those countries trading and their debt respectively0

FS soft closed their China, Indian and Latin American funds from the 1st Jan 2012. I haven't noticed any difference in fees when going through HL. The only 'change' is their removal from the wealth 150.
Most people use discount brokers so what has changed?0

I was looking for ways to get exposure to Brazilian infrastructure to benefit from various sporting events there over coming years. There's BRXX, which I'm watching but not holding.
My wife holds WS Atkins in her HYP, and it is a bit of a tiddly to be in there, but they operate in many places including Qatar and Brazil, and we're up 45% on capital since I bought back in September for a fiver. The 4.3% forecast forward yield (at today's price) isn't to be sniffed at either.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. WS Atkins
I got them, great share and I used to have alot more but I sold on the way up and its just not stopped They have had good news I think, Questor backed them also They have had good news I think, Questor backed them also
Power stations are a good way into these types of markets I think. One way or another more are needed, the amount of people coming out of the 'dark ages' is phenomenal
I own AGK and APR but Rolls Royce are a surprising related category as their gas turbines are used more I think not just in increasing Asian aviation but power too. Im sure there is more like them0

Well, if you will keep fiddling with your portfolio, these things will just keep happening. I'll be holding until at least 2018, probably longer. They have had good news I think, Questor backed them also I'll be holding until at least 2018, probably longer. They have had good news I think, Questor backed them also
Yes, a good ongoing news flow, and I expect more to come. They are a very good way to play the global market via a UK company, but I think they have the smallest cap of any of my direct holdings.I own AGK and APR but Rolls Royce are a surprising related category as their gas turbines are used more I think not just in increasing Asian aviation but power too. I'm mainly looking for dividend plays but the odd growth story in there does no harm. Thanks.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

I work for an Atkins competitor and would be careful, look at mouchel and wyg, both effectively bust.0
