Emerging Markets

I want to add a new global emerging markets fund to my SIPP. Timescale I am thinking 10-15 years before needing to sell. Any ideas?

Board doesnt allow the recommendations of investments.

Your best bet it to pick one (or more) and tell us why you picked it. Then that allows others to pick the bones off it and take it into discussion (which the board does allow).

I have the following in my pension:

First State Global Emerging Market Leaders
    Aberdeen Emerging Markets

Both are consistent, both went cautious over the past year or so and have avoided big losses.

First State is a tad cheaper (1.5% AMC vs 1.75% AMC for Aberdeen)

There's also an EM "income" fund, which is an interesting idea, run by UBS

    A yield of 4.7%.

OK I was thinking of this one, First State Global Emerging Mkt Leaders, I did want to use Aberdeen Emerging Markets, because I have that in my ISA and didn't want to be overexposed too much to one fund. Also it has a large % in Latin America, and I already have that covered, First State is a little more general.

I use the Vanguard Emerging Markets Index tracker, which has a TER of 0.55%.

And no, I don't want to open the active/passive debate; those who feel they can pick a fund that will outperform should just get picking, tell us what they chose and why, and we'll see how they've done in a decade's time.

My own problem with a tracker is that I want to drip feed them in, which will cost me money with my broker Hargeaves Lansdown, on top of a managament charge.

Fair enough - it can be hard to drip-feed into some trackers, and platforms are starting to introduce charges.

As it happens, I do have small holdings in both that First State and the Aberdeen EM funds, and have been reasonably happy with them over the years.

Therefore I anticipate gold and platinum to continue to soar. But will continue to hedge my bets in the other areas too.

That's certainly a high conviction portfolio. It's definitely not for me, but good luck to you!

I've invested in Aberdeen Emerging Markets. I chose managed over passive because I believe in the case of EM there are plenty of dodgy and corrupt companies that hopefully a managed fund would avoid.

I didn't do a massive amount of research tbh, but I know Aberdeen has a large range of funds that regularly do well, and this one had beaten its index over the last 5 years so I was prepared to pay the little extra for managed.
Faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

I don't have any trackers in that field, but I have been very happy with Aberdeen Asian Smaller companies since I bought it some years ago.

And outside of asia don't forget russian and brazil/latin america funds too.

Eastern european trust hasn't recovered from last August's falls, but has made me quite a lot of money overall since I first invested. So look at all areas of emerging markets, not just one.

After 2011, I really wish I could forget them!
